My thoughts are that Hell has this phenomenal marketing department that has painted it as a place where it's all about eternal torment, just to keep the Christians out. They just didn't want to put up with the constant proselytizing, and it would keep up property values as well.

I think Hell is actually a combination of Vegas, Cancun, Waimea Bay, and tons of championship golf courses. Happy hour lasts 24 hours a day. You can still smoke in bars. 80 degrees everyday. Awesome surf, with 70 degree water so you don't have to wear a wet suit. And the beaches, topless of course, who needs modesty?

In Norse ideology, hel is ice cold, and serves as a holding place. Hel is an extreme of the culture trying to express it. The middle-eastern myth, a desert climate, hell is extreme hot. Norse hel is extreme ice. It is possible also to be merely a state of mind.

Someplace where I was constantly reminded of heaven and I was prevented from attaining it.

Kind of like being chained up in an uncomfortable position and dying of thirst. You can see the water only an inch away, but can't drink it. You can only long for something you can never have.

It really depends upon which level you go to.
The upper levels(1st is Apollyon,I believe) are still burning, whilst the lower levels(the Abyss) are
extremely cold and the cold is burning. Hope that helps.
