The best amount of protein if your looking to build muscle is about 1.5 grams for every pound of body weight you have.
Or for just good health, probably between 60 to 100 grams a day
for men, and 45 to 60 for women.

Obviously everyone is different but in general you want 1 - 1.5 grams of protein per lb of body weight.... Up to a maximum of 250lbs SO I weigh 200 lbs and I would eat on average 300 grams of Protein per day or 1200 calories of protein per day (ontop of your other foods naturally).

If you were keeping an active lifestyle and was also on a bulk up weight lifting programme you'd take 2 grams per lb of body weight...

In general your average person can only assimilate between 32-50 grams of Protein at a time. Usually the later only after workouts.

that amount varies from person to person. it should depend on the amount of fat free mass that a person has, there daily level of activity (exercise increases muscle protein turnover) and their training goals. increasing the protein intake does not effect athletic performance but in terms of resistance training and building muscle the body needs plenty of protein to maintain a positive nitrogen balance.

I have everyone intake at least 1-1.5 grams of protein per lb of lean body mass not total body weight. after all, fat doesn't need protein...
