I think this is really a sad statement on our border security. What do you think?

""They're actually burning buses now," says Marcos Burruel, a volunteer at a migrant shelter in Altar. "These guys are trying to control the corridor for drugs, and they don't want migrants using it. ... And all we can do is give warnings."

Isaac Catalan would love a job in construction in the Carolinas, he says. But the Arizona border is now "tapado por la mafia," closed by the mafia, says Mr. Catalan, who tried to cross three times and lost more than $3,000 in the attempts."

"There's too much vigilance, too much," says Mr. Catalan, who comes from Mexico's southernmost state of Chiapas. "And it's not the Border Patrol."

I'M READING THE INITIAL QUESTION AND IT CAME OUT WRONG WHEN I EDITED. I DO NOT THINK IT IS OK TO ATTACK ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS TO STOP THEM FROM COMING. I think we need to deal with it with normal enforcement.

Reading this over, I thought I should say that.

rb1(etc) I disagree. If the law says it is only lawful to come a certain way (within a quota) then coming a different way is illegal. They can go to jail for it, so why wouldn't it be called illegal?

cmor, tell you what, put them all in your children's schools and pay for their education other than with our children's education funds. Their better life is at the expense of our children's future. Importing poverty does NOT raise the country's standard of living.

I agree that the correct term for them is "illegal" immigrants. Don't try to minimize what they are doing by prettying up the title. Very soon after arriving here illegally, they ALL start committing further crimes, whether that be working under the table for cash or using stolen/fake ID to gain employment illegally. From then on, the longer they are here, the more crimes they commit as they go on to more and more fraud and driving illegally and without proper insurance, often fraudulently obtaining welfare, using health/medical services without paying for them, etc. The longer they stay illegally, the longer their list of crimes grows.

In answer to your question, yes, definitely control and thorough policing of our borders are paramount to the reduction of illegal immigration. It does no good to deport them if they are easily able to simply turn around and come back again. That's like bailing the water in a sinking boat without ever plugging the holes!

That's the same thing I tell all this gringos who are anti-illegal immigration make to " make sure when you buy a HOUSE research and see who built it, when you go to the grocery store and buy VEGETABLES research and see who plucked them from the ground, next time who drive in the HIGHWAYS investigate who were the CONSTRUCTION workers, and also next time you say " I SUPPORT OUR TROOPS" investigate and see who are SOME OF THE PARENTS OF THESE KIDS FIGHTING FOR YOUR OWN FREEDOM KEEP THESE IN MIND. Where's the proof illegal immigrants raise taxes?
http://www.reason.org/commentaries/dalmi...

Eight million illegals pay Social Security, Medicare, and income taxes.

The fact that illegal immigrants pay taxes at all will come as news to many Americans. A stunning two-thirds of illegal immigrants pay Medicare, Social Security and personal income taxes.

In reality, the 1996 welfare reform bill disqualified illegal immigrants from nearly all means-tested government programs including food stamps, housing assistance, Medicaid and Medicare-funded hospitalization.

Close to 8 million of the 12 million or so illegal aliens in the country today file personal income taxes using these numbers, contributing billions to federal coffers.

What's more, aliens who are not self-employed have Social Security and Medicare taxes automatically withheld from their paychecks. Since undocumented workers have only fake numbers, they'll never be able to collect the benefits these taxes are meant to pay for.

I am sorry but the above posters are in error if you are in this country with out following proper legal channels you are illegal as you you have broken the law. as for our needing the illegals in this country. Why do we need 12000 to 15000 of citizens every year raped, killed in accidents by illegal drivers, and murders. I for one can do with out illegals in our country.

There is no such thing as Illegal Immigration, we only have undocumented workers.

That is an incorrect term, in our system of law, only what has been explicitly forbidden by law is illegal, everything else is perfectly legal.

There is no law that explicitly forbids entry into the United States, there are a myriad of laws that REGULATE the entry into this country, so the correct way to refer to people that failed to follow established legal procedure for entry is UNDOCUMENTED, since in order for somebody to become 'illegal' there would have to be a law that they have actively broken. That is not the case, by being in the US without having followed the proper legal procedure for entry they are UNDOCUMENTED not illegal.

I am so confused by this........and your question.

We don't WANT border routes correct Mr. Immigration guru?
either way?

I believe in open borders. Immigration is a force of nature, not a sociological phenomenon. If the U.S. economy is to grow enough for Social Security programs to remain viable, we simply MUST allow for liberal immigration policies and the resultant population increase.
