I think it's normal for anyone. I won't do it anywhere but home if I can help it, and I'm almost 26. Don't get me wrong though, if I'm traveling and staying at a hotel, I consider that "home." Out in public though, it's a no-no. If that's her only excuse for not wanting to go to sleepaway camp, I'd probably talk to her about it. Think of all the times in her life when she'll be away from home as an adult. She's going to have to get over the fear eventually. As long as she knows she can have privacy and the time to do it without worrying about what other people think, she should be okay. You should also encourage her to use some humor about the whole thing. If someone calls her on it, she can just laugh it off and tell them it was a "two-flusher." If kids see that something doesn't bother you, they won't press it. There's no fun in that.

What i might do the for this subject is initiate up a reward equipment. Make a chart which has the two boys names, and each and every time they do the excellent suited subject they get a golden action picture star, or some thing of the likes. as an occasion: the extra youthful one going an entire day with out having an twist of destiny. After accomplishing say 5 gold stars, or how ever many you deem ideal, the boy who has reached this feat gets a reward. it rather is something from lollies, a small toy or maybe a clean e book. It would not could be an expenxive award yet having this technique encourages eagerness for the toddlers to do the excellent suited subject in desire of incomes a reward. Goodluck.

Its very normal. In some instances even adults do it. You like to relax when you poop. Sometimes in a new place its hard. When I went to Basic military training some people didnt poop for the first two weeks and passed out!!!! Im for real!!! It was new place that was very hostile and different. Its all in the mind though. In high school people no one ever pooped in the public stalls unless it was a extreme emergency.

I used to work with a grown woman who would walk in the bathroom after someone had obviously recently pooped and ask why can't everyone just "do that at home."

This would be the same woman who lived in Minnesota and had nothing to brush snow off her car (first snowfall of the year) because she "threw out that silly snowbrush when all the snow melted last year."

I hope it is normal because I was the same way - although not to the point of not going to camp - but I would wait until everyone was asleep then go (I did that in college too).

Gross alert: I was always embarassed by the smell it made. I knew it was normal, but it bugged me.

Talk to her about her reason - and maybe come up with strategies (like for me, I wished my mom or I would have thought about packing airspray).

Don't worry. I am nine and I have the same problem too. I am really excited about sleepaway camp. (Also, all of you reading this may be suprised about my maturity if you look at my other answers and questions.) Maybe if we go to the same camp, we can be friends and get through our fear together.

I think it's pretty normal....depending upon her age of course, but I hate going poop anyplace that's not home, traveling or out in public, ARGH....but it might not be a bad thing to discuss with her that it's normal, everyone else does it, everyone poops....it's a normal, natural thing, and it's just a thing, has to be done....

If your child is eight or under, yes this is normal and she should be assured that pooping somewhere beside home is perfectly fine, but it is an anxiety issue and you might seek out some counseling.

Freud called this trait "anal retentive". Totally normal, especially for children, and most usually the result of a restrictive upbringing.
