My ex is supposed to pay 1/2 of all uncovered medical/dental expenses, and my son needs braces. Is it possible to get the ortho's office to send him a bill and hold him responsible for his part, or will I have to pay it all and then deal with the ex on my own? Any ideas or other options? If possible, I'd like to hear from someone who works in an ortho's office or who has been in the same situation.

Every office has their own policy. My policy is that the parent who presents the child for treatment is responsible for the bill. The agreement for your ex-spouse to pay is between you, your ex and the court. I have nothing to do with that arrangement and I don't want to get caught in the middle of a domestic dispute - again.

Yes, the dentist can send him a bill but the dentist can't hold him responsible. If he does not pay his portion then you can take him to court and then he will be ordered to pay his portion. We have been in that same situation and that is how it worked for us. Good luck. Hope this helps.

I was in the exact same situation. The sad news is that you have to pay the whole bill and deal with your ex on your own.
