I have Allstate Insurance. Full coverage; comp and collision. Unsure of how my bumper ended up with damage....either someone backed up into me while parked or the only thing I could think of was bumping into a snow bank the other day. I want to call my agent, but I am afraid that even if I inquire about it that he may list and report the damage. I just may fix it out of my own pocket in order to avoid any premium increase. Thanks in advance for you input.

Good answers here so far. I have Allstate as well and got a little ding on my Touareg one day. It did not look to bad so I just stopped by the VW body shop and asked them how much it would cost to repair it, they happily gave me an estimate of like $350 so I just had them fix it right out of pocket. No big deal. Never had to call my agent or anything.

Now had I called Allstate Claims then yes it would have been registered as having a claim, but Allstate would not have paid since the damage was less than my deductible and it would have causes problems with my claim free discount that I get from Allstate which is far more than the $350 out of pocket expense I pay per 6 months.

Anyway hope I've helped, take care.

I'd make my own enquiries into the cost of fixing it, because your excess would probably be min $400 or so you'd have to weigh up whether or not it's worth claiming. Also remember that by making a claim, your insurance premium next year will go up, and if you go to another insurer you'll have to declare that you made a claim - I think they usually ask you about the last 5 years. The bumper would need to be totally trashed before I claimed it on my insurance...

If you file a claim with your insurance company for them to cover the repairs, then yes your premium will increase. If you can afford to fix it your self, it might be a good idea to do just that.

Getting an assesment should not raise your insurance, but having your insurance company to fix it might. If it doesn't look that bad i would just leave it

Only if you report it to insurance and ask them to pay for it.
