nothing. No white. No black. I want to take a head shot and be able to save it so that it has no background and can be superimposed over anything. But I need to be able to save it without a white background ......what is that called? I know how to freehand around what I want to eliminate and cut but then its white. Can you help?!!

In Photoshop, after you do the Cut and click File New, you get a chance to select the background of the new file. Choose Transparent. Then save it. It will have 2 Layers; do not flatten it!

Now when you want it, you can Copy and Paste the head shot into a different image. The rectangular background will be transparent, so you can move the head shot around for placement without covering anything except the area under the Copied head. Now you can flatten the new image.
