I still have a land phone which I need for my computer. I get charged about $55.00 per mo. for it. I think I can do better with another plan that would eliminate the land phone. Like yourself, I rarely answer my home phone. The reason is that most calls are from "unknowns" who never answer, or from foreign telemarketers who pronounce my name differently. These foreign telemarketers are the result of outsourcing going on in business to reduce American workers, and as soon as I recognize who they are, I just hang up.

It's become somewhat of a cat and mouse game with my land phone. Although I contribute substantially to many well known charities, I feel there are many around with blemished records and are probably borderline illegitimate/illegal.

I don't like recorded messages and hang up once I hear a recording. Therefore, I would never have a recording on my home phone.

I use my cell phone mainly for stock quotes during the business day since I may need to do a trade on a stock. I also have about a dozen important people on my cell phone that I may need to reach in an emergency...mostly co-workers or relatives.

In sum, my home phone is needed to support my computer, and I use my computer mostly for my buying and selling decisions for various stocks I follow.

Many people that I know still do use home phones, but it's becoming more and more that people are beginning to use cell phones only. Especially now, since the dial-up internet connection is being overtaken by DSL and Broadband. For long-distance calls a phone card can be used with a cell phone, so the home/land phone is really not necessary anymore.

I agreee with the boy friend, just get a cell phone. They make more sense because you can talk anywhere for about the same price as it costs you for your home phone to sit there doing nothing.
If you don't already have a cell phone, just make sure to shop around for a calling plan that is suited for your talking habits, and you should be fine.

Yes I use a home phone, but I sometimes think cell phones are a better idea, 'cause you don't have to deal with telemarketers & other people like them. I tried the cable thing, & the service was crappy, so I switched back to regular.

We still have a home phone as our cells don't get very good reception in the house.
We have 5 people in my family, so it is convenient to hae a land line too if more than one of us needs the phone.

Alot of my friends have gone to cell only though and it works fine for them.

of course many people still do , thats why i still have a job, and when the power goes down for all of you who rely on your cells, and voip dont expect to still have phone service like those who still use "traditional" phone service..

that is a good idea, unless you own a business why would you still need a home phone. i believe they will become more obsolete in the coming years.
