No, it is most likely genetic since it often runs in families. The gene will be found eventually so can be diagnosed by blood test. My daughter has Rett Syndrome, the ONLY condition in the autistic spectrum to have a genetic mutation that can be diagnosed by blood test. I'm sure the same will happen with autism.

Maybe someday a brain scan of some kind will be able to identify autism & other conditions which are characterized by different types of brain activities. Dyslexia, bi-polar and others.
When? Who knows? I hope soon.

just do a web search on FMRI and autism. very interesting. looks like another 10 years and much will be known. matter of time and money. but why ask such a question when you can read the research literature.
