Speaking in tongues is a prayer language--one of the power gifts elaborated on in +st Corinthians 12. In my many missionary travels, I have witnessed only one person with the gift of "Interpretation of Tongues." One who interpreted in Hebrew and English and during that session, the power emanating from the"Word" was so strong, that the entire Anglican church in Jos--Nigeria, fell to the ground. Can you imagine that? In an Anglican church. That proves that the power gifts are not a denominational blessing.

1. Did anyone interpret? Scripture based.
2. Was this a prayer? Scripture based.
3. Most "tongues" in public are for the church, not individual based.

Most of all, test the spirits and the message.

Acts 2:4 Holy spirit enabled them to speak in different tongues or different languages so all could hear the message about the christ. That was necessary then but it is no longer necessary.
Now people learn other languages and go speak to the people about Jesus christ.

My husband speaks in tongues all the time and convinces people he's possessed. All he's doing is saying a bunch of nonsensical stuff in a strange voice - and he admits it obviously. But ANYBODY can do it and pretend to be taken over by the Holy Spirit or whatever. It's all made-up BS.

Once, I was in the post office mailing some things off, and this crackhead walks in babbling off the top of her head about being chased by giant 7-headed crickets, I could tell she definitely had the "gift" of the spirit. I was so moved by her "annointedness", that I then began to flop on the floor in an epileptic fit praising "Jeeeeeeezus".

Yes. It was interpreted. It was relevant. I don't remember the message now as it has been years ago. But it did fit the time and season.

Yeah, when I was a christian I heard one a few times. it went soemthing like:

aeigohaerogfhalds roahghaldfkh aaerhuhgkdfasjfg e arogaeoiga fdhgakjdfg hfdjshgcuvbew.

Obviously I don't need to translate this for you, all we all know what it means anyway!

I didn't find it very relevent to my lifestyle, though I found the bit about the fish amusing.

:P

I have heard people preaching in "tongues" but I didn't understand it and I don't think they did either. I think they were just putting it on.
