I live on a busy street and I park my car out front. Everytime I walk to my car there is definete evidence that a dog has done his business in the area between the sidewalk and the street in my yard. I have never been able to catch the person allowing his dog to do this. I don't mind as long as you pick it up, but I shouldn't have to walk through my own yard worrying about stepping in doggy doodoo.
Any ideas?

And I can not build a fence because like I said I live on a busy street and he is doing it in the area between the sidewalk and the street.

I'm not whining I'm using Yahoo Answers to find an answer like it's intended.

This is a challenge.

You can spray an area with "doggie deterrent" sprays. I provided the link to one such example below. Basically, you spray an area you don't want the dog to be in. But be warned, you may have to spray more areas (as the dog may choose to go to an unsprayed area) or even respray when it snows or rains (that said, dogs' smelling is so acute, that even rain shouldn't wash the spray fully away). However, this seems to be a safe and effective way to hopefully stop the dog from going in the walkway.

Other than this, I think you just have to wait and watch. Eventually, you will catch the dog going. If the owner is with the dog, you have a right to complain (as he should have a way to pick up the waste). If he is rude to you or ignores you, you have a right to report him to the police. But sometimes a token, non-threatening confrontation is enough to get neighbors to behave. If the dog is roaming free, report it to your local Humane Society or animal shelter - they can get the dog.

Red Pepper sprinkled generously around. When the dog(s) start smelling around for a place to squat they'll learn quickly to go elsewhere.

If you know for sure who the guilty dog is, call your town or village to complain. In my town, the owner would receive a fine. The hard part, is catching them in the act!
