It is very likely that you have familial tremor... It is harmless for the most part... yet very annoying....

A few things to think about... Have you ever had alcohol?? Does the shaking slow down/stop afterwards?? If so, it is probably F.T.

There are medications to take for F.T. one of them being propranolol (sp??).... it's a blood pressure medication, but also stops the tremors...

F.T. is persistant throughtout life, and will get slightly worse with age.. Ex. progressing from the hands to the head and neck, causing slight shaking throughout your upper body.

If it really bothers you.. Talk to a doctor about possibly having Familial Tremor!!

Good Luck!

EDITED

F.T. is a genetic condition.. Ask around to see if some of your family members also have shaky hands. It can't be cured.. but it can be controlled, as I said above.

Are you taking any medicines? Anything that stimulates your sympathetic nervous system can cause shakiness. For example, my asthma inhaler causes it every time I take it. Also, caffeine or any other stimulant will cause it (I got really shaky from drinking coffee to stay awake at night for a week and was freaked out b/c I thought I had Parkinson's or something, but no, just too much caffeine). Chances are you don't have a serious debilitating nervous system disorder at your age, however, can't rule it out. For starters I would go to your family physician b/c they will look at all aspects of it and they will refer you to a neurologist if necessary. Plus they will be easier and cheaper to get into than a specialist would.

I had the same thing with a hyper thyroid...check your pulse and if it is higher than 90 ish, it could be your pulse causing it...but hyperthyroid patients have fast pulses as well. Check all this out with your doc.
