God cannot be proven. He/She/It also cannot be disproven.

Zeus cannot be proven. He also cannot be disproven.

Santa Claus cannot be proven. He also cannot be disproven.

Faeries cannot be proven. They also cannot be disproven.

Werewolves cannot be proven. They also cannot be disproven.

Unicorns cannot be proven. They also cannot be disproven.

Dragons cannot be proven. They also cannot be disproven.

Do I believe in Zeus? No. Why? No evidence.

Do I believe in Santa Claus? No. Why? No evidence.

Do I believe in faeries? No. Why? No evidence.

Do I believe in werewolves? No. Why? No evidence.

Do I believe in unicorns? No. Why? No evidence.

Do I believe in dragons? No. Why? No evidence.

I hope you see where I'm going with this. (If you can't, I'll spell it out: God is as believable as faeries, werewolves, unicorns, and dragons. He is no different than them, and, if most people don't believe in faeries, werewolves, unicorns, and dragons, there is no reason that they should believe in God.)

Because you shouldn't believe in anything without evidence. For example, if I told you I had a lamp that contained a Genie that could grant you three wishes, and offered to sell it to you for $1000, you'd want some sort of proof before you bought it (at least, I hope you would... if not, e-mail me and we'll do Paypal!).

Now, if you look at your own experience and really question what proof you have of your own belief, you will find there is none. You believe because your parents raised you to believe, or some other exposure during your upbringing that imprinted that belief into your brain. But if you look for the simplest proof or evidence that god listens to your prayers, or did anything the bible says he did, you won't find any.

Why live your life rationally, except for this one part of you that holds an irrational belief? Doesn't make sense, does it?

There is no evidence that there is a god. No evidence essentially means that someone made it up. It isn't rational or reasonable to believe in things without any evidence to back it up. You would be stuck with hundreds of thousands of gods and everything else that human imagination could come up with since they all have the same evidence.

Not believing in god is the same as not believing in Odin, Zeus, Ra, Hera, Bacchus, The Great Spirit, Osiris, The Flying Spaghetti Monster and all the others. I would be no less surprised of evidence of Odin was found than I would be if evidence of your god was.

I do not believe in any deity or creator at all, because there is no evidence.

In the sciences, a hypothesis is always phrased to the positive of an effect. "Ultraviolet light will enhance plant growth," "the presence of KMNO4 indicates the presence of starches." The null hypothesis is the negation of the hypothesis, "UV light will not enhance plant growth," "KMNO4 does not indicate presence of starch."

One then gathers evidence, via research or observation, often by experimentation.

One then looks to see if the evidence refutes the null hypothesis. If it does so, then one says that the hypothesis is accepted with a certain confidence level. If it does not, the null hypothesis is upheld.

In the question of a deity or creator:

Hypothesis: There is a deity or creator of some nature.
Null hypothesis: There are no deities of any nature.

Next, we should gather evidence. If we operate strictly on the available evidence, we have insufficient evidence to reject the null hypothesis. Thus, we maintain the null hypothesis pending further evidence.

Thus, there are no deities of any nature.

------------------------

It isn't to us to provide evidence for the null hypothesis. The null hypothesis is accepted by default. It is to you to provide evidence against the null hypothesis or for the hypothesis.

I eagerly await.

1.) There is no evidence.
2.) I believe in my friends and family, if that's what you mean. I don't believe in any supernatural entities.

According to the rules of logical reasoning, the burden of proof lies upon the person making the claim of existence. So, if I say that mermaids swim in my toilet tank, I have to prove it. You do NOT have to prove me wrong. The same thing applies to god/s. The people who say that god/s exist have to give evidence of it; I can't refute evidence that's never been given. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

wow, you take tonight's "I can't spell a-the-ist" prize. That was TERRIBLE.

- in case you are asking about christian god, because he is as unlikely as most of the other gods that have come and gone. A better question would be "what makes your origin myth more special"
- myself and you, my fellow men, I don't need to worship external powers.

edit: to address your addition; prove to me there are no invisible pink ponies. I am not the one making the insane claims of sky fairie daddies or invisible ponies, so you better provide the proof.

edit2: you still don't get it. YOU are the one insisting you have an invisible dragon. You prove it is there. Also, this dragon exists in another dimension that is why we can't feel it. And other crap arguments. He who makes the claim, provides the proof. And like somebody else stated, extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof.

Belief is belief - you can't fake it. I don't believe in god(s). It's not that I believe in no god(s) or against god(s), the belief in god(s) is simply not there. That being said, I also have strong philosophical and scientific objections to the entire concept of god(s) and very strong ethical and moral objections to the abuses manifested by various religions.

There is evidence for God. It's so simple you just don't want to except it. The reason you can't find God is the same reason why a theif can't find a police man...he isn't looking.. And when ever some facts do come you just try to pretend they aren't true no matter how much it makes scense.

I am an atheist. I do not believe in any god(s) because there is no evidence that supports the existence of any god(s).

I believe in my wife, and my children, and my family and my friends. However, I don't think any of them are gods/goddesses (well, my wife is close).
