I'm am a 45 year old female masters swimmer. I was awarded a gift certificate to a nutritional supplement catalog after winning an open water compet, and I chose to order some creatine. Am I crazy ? I've been taking it for one week now. I've got a championship coming up in 3 weeks. The big day is 200 fly followed by 400 IM. I chose to do them both because I am slightly insane! Will the creatine make it easier?

If you are a swimmer, creatine may not be what you want to use. Creatine will cause you to retain water and will also help to build bulk to your muscles. It may give you some endurance, but it's not something to continue taking for an extended period of time. I used it in four and six-week cycles to train for boxing and bodybuilding. It will cause results, it will make you more buff. If you think that will slow you down, don't use it.

You will not see much results overnight using this kind of supplement. It will take at least two weeks to build up the creatine levels in your body needed to bulk up, and they will continue to be high for a couple of weeks after you stop.

If you are taking creatine monohydrate, make sure you are drinking lots of water. It will keep you from cramping up in the pool and it will also keep you from causing kidney damage. You should always take the supplement with plenty of water. I recommend at least a half-gallon of water a day, if not more.

I would, however, recommend creatine titrate over the monohydrate. It will keep you from getting any muscle cramps. But do drink lots of water regardless of the supplement you are taking. You want that stuff to run smoothly through your body.

Good luck, I hope this helps.

Creatine is actually an energy booster that will give you a boost of energy during times of strainious workouts to help in the muscle building process. More adrenaline in the muscles equals to more muscle built. Creatine is the reason that you are full of energy now, but do be carefull taking it, I do believe there is a warning on the label. Also if you would like more information on creatine you may be able to get it from flex magazine, muscle fitness magazine, or mens health. I do believe these magazines with answers may be looked up on the internet as well.

creatine basically supplies you with extra energy for your physical activity, whether that be weight-lifting, swimming, or explosive movements. i would research the correct ways to take it so that you can get the most use out of it.

however, since everyone is different and react differently to supplements, its effects on your performance could vary from marginal to exceptional.

there are no scientific studies that show any negative effects of creatine. i'd challenge misguided doctors and others to try to find some.

There are some studies that have demonstrated a SMALL effect on burst performance, but nothing significant on longer duration activities. Excessive consumption might harm kidneys, but I'd think you'd really have to over do it to cause significant harm. So, it probably won't help you much, but it probably won't hurt much either...

It isn't likely to do anything good or bad. It's worth just about what you paid for it.
