Like whenever my dogs hear an ambulance, they make a loud noise and whine or scream but they dont when a car passes by? The ambulance does have a loud siren on it too. Does it mean that the dogs can sense if someone's hurt from afar?

The siren may be giving off higher sound then human can hear. To dogs it very anoying. Or the siren may just hurt there ears. Dogs can hear better then us. Thought most choose not to.

Dogs are scared of different sounds or things. Let's say you throw a squeeky high pitch toy at him and he gets scared. But if you throw a rubber ducky that makes a "quack" sound, he doesn't. This happens to all kinds of different dogs. If someone was hurt though, yes a dog can sense that but not from afar. I remember watching the news of a dog that rescued a baby that wasn't breathing on the bed. The parents was busy, and the dog kept whining them begging them to come to the bed where the baby was at. Can't remember what happened, but the baby was saved and the parents loved their dog more then ever. I hope that answers your question = )

I don't know much about dogs, but as far as people say, dog's ears are sensitive, that's something new to me = ) Very interesting, thanks guys!

Dogs have extremely good hearing. They hear things that we cannot hear at all. When sirens are loud, the poor dog's ears are in pain with all that loud noise. This is for any type siren, firetruck, ambulance, policeman, etc.. I hope this helps!

When dogs hear the sirens of ambulance, fire or police vehicles because they interpret it as though it were another dog howling and canines howl ( or whine sometimes) by instinct in response to this.

I think its because the sirens are so high-pitched that it hurts the dogs ears.. I could be wrong though but it makes sense.

well it could be because it hurts the dogs ears, or because the dogs havent becaome firmiliar with loud sounds as a puppies or that sound inparticular. I would suggest just trying to keep them away from the sound because most likly it is hurting their ears.

Holy crap, usually I try to maintain an air of gentility but if you are that STUPID, you should most definitely never be left responsible for the care of another life form; human, animal, or plant.

Loud, high-pitched noise = pain for animal with sensitive hearing.
