I adopted a puppy from the pound last week. He started coughing with a runny nose. He was diagnosts with kennel cough, and put on anti biotics. That was 5 days ago. He has not eatten or drank in 2 days, has no fever, continually vomiting, no diareah. He has had 2 rounds of fluids from the vet. The vet told me this morning that he has pneumonia, and puppies usually don't make it through this. I am devistated. Can someone give me help?

He is on Clavamox 2ce a day and Baytril 2ce a day. He has had 2 antibiotice shot one today and one yesterday and has had 2 fluid sacs inserted. I was given a special a/d diet to feed him with a suringe. I know I'm doing what I can. I just fear for what his chances are.

Peggy, I am so sorry to hear about your puppy. Sometimes pneumonia can be fatal to young animals. You can try a little prayer along with the great medical help you are getting for him, and maybe something will happen, and he will be fine. If something happens, and he doesn't make it, you are wonderful for going and getting him and taking such good care of him. He was so fortunate you came and got him and gave him a good home and love.

i'm really sorry about your puppy. he's pretty young. i hope he makes it. call the pound and let them know what's happened. kennel cough is very contaigous. i know it isn't any consolation but, should anything happen to your pup, you may be able to get your money back. you got him in good faith. at least it would help pay the vet bill. i'll say a prayer for you and him.

There's several causes for penumonia, but if your poor puppy has bacterial pneumonia, it responds quite well to treatment. Your vet would have done blood work and x-rays - did he tell you which type your puppy has? Hope he'll be ok!!
