I have had to return a number of products such as faucets, lamps, mirrors, etc. during a remodeling project, because of missing pieces, damage, or poor design.

Talking to an Home Depot employee, I've been told that they often buy below top- quality products, but advertise them as top of the line. Having spent a few hours installing a combination bathroom exhaust fan, heater, and light, only to have to return it for a working one, I think I'll just pay more and shop elsewhere.

They aren't "Seconds" as far as I know. I know they do have a section that sells returns, wrong size custom ordered items, etc. Sounds like you've just ran into some bad luck:( Nothing is as high quality and dependable as it used to be..my opinion...so many things manufactured cheap over-seas. You might bring it to the Manager's attention and maybe he/she would compensate you for your time & trouble. I prefer Lowe's over HD personally:)
Good Luck with your next project!

i think so or they didn't pass quality testing. bought several doors at different times and they had some defects , mostly the hinges were not set in properly. I will never l buy a door from home depot again.

I dont think so, I am remodeling too , I buy ALOT from them, why dont you check the inside of thebox for parts etc before you leave the store. I did have some parts issues with stock kitchen cabinets but we luckily had extra hardware in the next cabinet box.

They aren't seconds, but if they don't work for you, don't even bother going there. Simple as that. Find a new store, such as Werhungs, Lowe's or a specialty hardware store near you.
