I'm 13 and my parents still treat me like I am 10? What can I do to make them stop treating me like a little kid? I hate it and they are unfair.

As a parent of a 13 year old, I can't directly answer your question without more specific details of *how* you feel they treat you like a 10 y/o, and *what* about their decisions seems unfair. I do know that, when my 13 y/o daughter is disrespectful, or can't be bothered to control her reactions (temper), or in general behaves like a little kid, I will certainly treat her as such.

I can't say for sure that any of this pertains to your situation. Maybe you're the perfect kid; you speak respectfully, listen and follow directions when you're spoken to, get your chores, homework, other responsibilities taken care of, etc. But I would guess that you could probably work on at least some of those areas, to earn more respect and trust from your parents.

Good luck!

The best way to show your parents you are growing up is to take on some responsibility. Make an effort to step up and do things around the house- maybe even some things your parents wouldn't ask you to do. Also consider- are you really acting your age or are you acting less mature? If you feel comfortable, sit down and have a talk with your parents- tell them how you feel. They might not realize that they are treating you this way.

You aren't going to like this answer --but -- if you start acting with more maturity and responsibilty, your parents will stop treating you like a kid.

If you act like a 10 year old, you will not get the privileges of a 13 year old. Talk to them without whining and tell them what you think would be fair --but realize that the decision is still theirs to make.

PS --LIFE ISN'T FAIR!!!

You have to understand parents don't want to think of their children growing up. Show then how you can be responsible and they can trust you. Do small things for them without being told. To them you will always being their baby, one day you will feel the same when you become a parent.

Talk to them about it. And tell them that they are treating you like a 10 yr old and you want more priveledges. Show them that your an older person, but don't go around acting like a 10 yr old and stuff.

How about stop acting like a little kid? Earn their respect and trust and they'll stop treating you like a child. It's really easy. Parents are normally fair--you are just a child so you don't understand that yet.

Do you have chores to do around the house? Like keeping your room clean? Taking out th trash? Anything else? Please consider that if you do these things, without complaining, and without procrastinating, that will win points with your parents? That is probably what they are looking for. Also, please get your homework done after school, before getting together with a friend, etc., and show yourself how responsible and respectful you are. Take care.

They treat you like a kid because you are still a kid and why try to grow up sooner than you have too?
