She thinks she is fat because she was watching her new bratz movie and she didn't look like those dolls on it? How do I tell her she is not fat I keep telling her that but she isn't listening. She isn't eating anything. And she is not fat because she weighs 49 pounds! What do i tell her. I am tired of her whining I ran out of ideas!

I have a six year old daughter also and had the same experience with barbie. We tried talking with her and pointing things out and all these other ideas but none of them worked. My dd is only 35 pounds she is tiny but doesn't like the skin roll when she sits down. She is even in gymnastics and ballet where she knows her body is no different than other girls. The only thing that worked for us was to trick her small mind we said you are not fat and you have no rolls but if you are worried about becoming fat we will help you stay fit. I bought her one of those kids dance dvds and told her it was exercise and I let her eat all the vegetables she wants for a snack. After about a week of this routine (dance, vegetables) she got bored and decide she looked fine. She gets her dance stuff out once a week or so now and she still loves vegies over junk food but that is a good thing.
I think when a child says they look fat compared to cartoons or movies it is because they relate to these things just as teenagers relate to super stars and classmates. I do not believe that it is right that children so young should have self esteem issues but this is life now. It is better to help her achieve her own self esteem than to disagree with her all the time that will only make her think she is fat and stupid.
Besides it is good for children to learn at a young age how to take care of their health and to make healthy choices. Embrace this opportunity to teach exercise and good food. I know that most think she is to young to worry about it and you will love your child whether she is skinny or fat but I have been both and her world will be so much fuller if she is happy with herself.

Tell her that what she saw is only a movie and is not real. There are all sort of shapes and sizes and the bratz movies are fictional characters.
At six, I'd be a little concerned about why she thinks she's fat or who she's heard it from (besides the movies). Perhaps, someone else (classmates) has made a statement to her and hurt her feelings.

Reassure her and tell her that she is not fat and to stop worrying about it and have fun. I'm sure in a few days she'll forget all about it.

Please, take her to her dr. asap, and have the dr. have a talk with her, letting her know, by measuring how tall she is, and her weight, that she is not fat. And also, explain that dolls look different than people They are dolls, not people. If seeing the dr. doesn't seem to help, please get a referral to a good counselor for her to talk with. Are you trying to lose weight? That could be a part of it too. Tell her she needs to eat, to keep up her strength each and every day. And please consider getting rid of that movie! Before you do, without her being there to watch it, please watch it first, to see if there is anything said or hinted at in the movie that would cause her to think like this. I truly wish you the best. Take care.

I don't think taking Bratz away will change anything. They are dolls/cartoons and she needs to understand that is not real. Point out that their eyes cover half their face. Would that look good on a real person? Their feet are HUGE! Would that look good on a real person?

Everybody is different, and the important part is being healthy, not being skinny. Healthy food and exercise will make her body strong and beautiful in it's own way (regardless of size), and that's the important thing.

First of all, Bratz are hardly an appropriate role model for young children. I would start by tossing that movie and getting her educational or socially redeeming movie choices.

Don't mention your own weight issues or dieting in front of her. Set a good example for her to learn that it's ok to be comfortable in your own skin. For now.. tell her she is being silly to think she is fat and that it is ok to be overweight, but not as healthy as eating right and getting lots of exercise.

Lol some kids are cute. But Bratz are not good for little children. They ruin their self-esteem. Tell her that they are bad for her and that those dolls are drawn like that and no one can look like that.

Tell her she's not fat and she could be drinking whole milk if she wanted to.

Tell her everyone is different. You don't need to be like someone to be liked.
