I have worn contacts for most of my life. I also wear glasses but I MUCH prefer the contacts. When you wear contacts, it's almost like you have perfect natural vision. If you get a pair that's just right for your eyes, you won't feel them or be bothered by them at all. You'll have great peripheral vision too. As far as their strength, I believe you can get them in any strength but I do not believe they make contacts yet that correct astigmatism. They also do not make them for people who need reading glasses, although I do believe they now make bifocal contacts. Of course, all the extras mean more $$. If you're merely near-sighted you can probably get fitted and buy your contacts for a decent price. I have only experienced one serious drawback with contacts and that is that it makes my near vision worse than it is naturally. In other words, when I'm wearing my contacts I find it a little difficult to read where without the contacts I can read perfectly. This didn't start to bother me until I got older so if you're still young it might not bother you at all. The strength of your prescription may have something to do with how your contacts affect your near vision. Good luck!

Yes they are and they are so much better. You can look down,up,or to the side without turning your entire head like you have to do with glasses. I have worn contacts for 15 years and see just as well as I do in my glasses, and I'm much more comfortable without glasses on my face for long periods.

Contacts are actually a tad better than glasses! They sit directly on your eyes and you have more range in your peripheral vision. (As you know, if you look out of the corners of your eyes while wearing glasses, you can no longer see. Contacts eliminate that!).
When I changed over from glasses to contacts, the difference was night and day. My vision was much sharper. Give them a whirl! You might like it.
Good luck. :-)

they can be stronger because they don't have to be as big and heavy. If you are nearsighted I suggest you get rk or lasic If you are far sighted contacts work great. If you have astigmatism, contacts may be a problem because of alignment, they have ti be weighted on one side and sometimes get turned. Talk to a ophthalmologist that likes contacts, I find some of them can be very opinionated, just like anyone else.
