Are they the same, or are they different programs that aid students?

Great question!

FAFSA is a form of financial aid.
It's a PELL Grant and the best place to start.
It's a monetary award based on income.

Being denied PELL is not a bad thing...because it opens doors to other forms of financial aid.

You can fill out the FAFSA for Pell Grant on line...just make sure you have the school code...I usually recommend people list more than one school...because a "letter of release" allows you to attend one of the secondary schools with that money.

Good luck

FAFSA stands for "Free Application for Federal Student Aid." Thus, a FAFSA is the application you use to apply for federal financial aid (by federal financial aid, I mean aid that comes from the U.S. Government, not individual state governments). FAFSA is the application, financial aid is what you receive based upon the application. FAFSA isn't a program at all, it's just a document. The federal government uses the information on your FAFSA to caluculate how much aid to give you.

The aid can come in the form of grants (which do not have to be repaid after degree completion), loans (which do have to repaid after degree completion), federal work study (you work while in school, generally for the school, to help pay for your education), and a bunch of others. Most, if not all, people are eligible for some sort of aid, but it varys significantly based upon your need.

Also, it is also worth noting that many, but not all, states use your FAFSA to determine if you're eligible for any state financial aid. I would suggest doing a bit of research and finding out if the state your attending college in requires a separate application from the FAFSA to apply for state financial aid.

FAFSA is the form you fill out to be eligible for various federal financial aid programs. Financial aid is not a specific program, just any sort of grants, scholarships or loans to help you pay for school.

Some examples would be a Federal Pell Grant or a Stafford Loan. I recommend you fill out the FAFSA as soon as possible because these programs are first come, first served.

Good luck.

No, the FAFSA is the application for free federal financial aid.

You may get financial aid without it, but the FAFSA is an accepted form by many creditors, so it will not only give you access to federal financial aid, but it will also give you access to other private lendors.

My advice is to fill out as many financial aid applications as you can as early as you can.
