Pink eye or Conjunctivitis is usually caused by a bacteria and can be contracted more than once. If you are around someone who has pink eye then make sure to wash your hands frequently and use anti bacterial hand gels before you touch your face or eyes. If the eye is sealed shut in the morning, you should apply a warm, wet cloth to the eye until the crust loosens up and you can open the eye. I recommend seeing a doctor for antibiotic drops so that you can get rid of the infection especially if it is severe because it can cause damage to the eye

In adults, about 90-95% of cases of conjunctivitis are caused by a virus. Frequently, it is caused by adenovirus, which is the virus that causes the common cold. Just like you can get a cold many times, you can get conjuctivitis many times. Because it is a virus, antibiotics will not help. Warm compresses to remove discharge or cool compresses for comfort are fine. Viral conjunctivitis most commonly is of no threat to your vision. However, keep in mind that it is very contagious, so be careful to wash your hands frequently and avoid spreading it to your uninvolved eye.

You should go to the eye doctor if you have anything more than mild pain, light sensitivity, blurring of your vision, or if you wear contact lenses.

Also, about 75% of cases of conjunctivitis in CHILDREN are bacterial, so most kids are best treated with antibiotic drops.

Bacterial conjunctivitis is spread by touch , by insects and sometimes due to cosmetics. A white sticky discharge is produced by the bacteria. I've had it once in my life, and I still remember not being able to open my eye. I just put a wet towel on my eye until the gunk came out. At the time I didn't even know I had pink eye until it wouldn't go away.

Pink eye or conjunctivitis is very contagious. I have seen animals pass it to kids and back again. You need to take a warm compress, like a warm wet wash rag and hold it on your eye until all that goop gets moist and you can open your eye. You need a doctor who can prescribe antibiotic eye drops so you can get over it. I would wash your hands frequently.

wow.... it must be spreading. I don't know where I have gotten it from. Wash your hands frequently to prevent it from spreading. Good luck not getting it in your other eye. It seems almost impossible. Just put warm water on your eyes in the morning... that works for me. It takes a few seconds.

I've had pink eye MANY times. You need to go to your doctor and get eye drops for them. Then you can do whatever in 48 hours again. You need to get warm water on a rag and whipe them clean. (and no, don't use soap.)
