Help! I am thinking that my PC may now have to go to the computer graveyard. I had attempted to install a memory card reader for my PC. The computer complained because it said I needed Windows XP service pack 1 but I don't have this. My computer is pretty old, I inherited it from an old flatmate but I am a lowly newly qualified teacher and cannot afford to buy a new one!! Trouble is, as a result, I don't have the windows XP CD to load up again even. I forgot that I still hadnt restarted the computer and later on we had a powercut (hmmm... may have forgotten to top up the electricity meter!). Anyway on turning it back on a blue screen comes up and says I have to restart the computer in safe mode - but it also comes up when I do attempt to restart it in safe mode! The message comes up with the following code: Stop: 0x000000ED (0x80E9DDc0, 0xC0000032, 0x00000000, 0x00000000). Can anyone help me, or even suggest where I can get hold of a copy of Windows XP if i need to reinstall?

That looks like a hardware issue. You said that you were attempting to add a memory card reader. Did you remove it from the PC?. Also check that you did not knock loose anything else inside the PC. Especially check the memory in the PC.

If that does not work, you may have to borrow a Windows CD (same version as currently on you PC) and do a reinstall of Windows. But you probably do NOT have to replay the entire PC. Just Windows.

Press F8 just after the POST screen (eg Dell or Gateway logo), then try Boot from last know good configuration. Make sure you remove the new card reader.
