Suppose you have been away for awhile (a few days or a week or 2 while someone of course takes care of it.)

Do you think he/she will recognize a face photo of yours scale 1 to 1 and start making that demanding high pitch sound when they want something badly?

Never had this chance, just curious.

I'm not sure. As much as it would be nice to think that they could I don't believe they can. Dogs are quite nearsighted and monochromatic(colorblind),they mainly think and recognize with thier noses. I know a dog that can chase you right down the driveway even though she is totally blind.(friendly but playful!). they also hear very well. as far as the length of time they can remember, They will remember forever.

No. Dogs minds don't work conceptually like that. While they can recognize you when you walk in the door, a flat image would mean nothing to them. They just don't transfer the information over that way in the same way that a human mind would.

Nope. Dogs can't even recognize themselves in a mirror. Their minds just don't work that way. They see objects, not details. As in, it's a square, not a picture. It's running around, it's not cute&fuzzy squirrel.

Maybe if its a smart breed of dog. A chuwawa might just rip up the photo.

In a similar vein - try recording yourself on a casstte talking to your dog, then play it while the dog's around. don't stand near the stereo. see how your dog reacts. my dog used to get a bit hyper and coming up to me going like "wtf is going on!!"
