I went on a date recently with a girl, we only seem to communicate by messenger or text messages, is she avoiding me? we never actually speak on the phone.

Probably, but there are other explanations as well, from being busy to having laryngitis to having a bit of OCD about talking on the phone.

If a discussion gets involved enough, I sometimes say "This is ridiculous; let's just pick up the phone." Or whatever. That happened most often with my wife before we lived together, but also sometimes afterward, when I'd just walk upstairs to continue the conversation. ;)

If it makes sense to move to the phone and she still doesn't, then you should worry.
