For an army uniform, where does the ranking go for private first class?? On the collar, but what side?

For your info Amy, Im not in the Army...it's called a project for College, and its called education, why dont you go get some, your obviously lacking it due to your ignorance:)

both side about 1/2" up from the point of the collar, centered of course

Well on the old bdu the private first class rank goes 1 inch from the corner of each colar. This is most easily mesured through the use of a quarter, but on the new acu uniform it is placed in the center of the chest on the fuzzy part(don't call it velcro).

On fatigues, or utilities, on the collar. On Class A uniforms and dress uniforms, on the sleeve just below the shoulder.

if you are talking about class a's and class b's then it is on both sides of the collar. check out ar 670-1.

This was taught to you in basic training. If you were in the Army, you'd know.
