Ok, every year my son and his cousin have a double birthday party. He will be 5 and she (his cousin) will be 6. There themes are princess and bob the builder. We cannot find anywhere in Tacoma WA. to have this party that will not cost hundreds of dollars. We are planning on having 30+ kids. Our houses are too small for that kind of party but will do as a last resort. The party will be on Sat. March 10th. It rains alot in WA so not sure about an outdoor party. Any ideas? We have no place, activities... or anything. Time is running out, help!

Do either of your parents have a house locally large enough? What about renting a local firestation? Like where I live there are volunteer fire fighters outside the city limits (some as close as 10 minutes) and they rent the places for cheap. Also the VFW rents their places cheap. There are sometimes also local mens club, same thing as a VFW. What about a church? If either of you are members they might let you use it for free. Free masons also sometimes rent their halls. I would stay clear of outside with small kids weather can be a big issue. Resturant with a ball room or banquet hall might let you rent the room.

What about a local bowling alley, then you do not have to do activities?

Same with a movie, you save money because you do not have to buy activities and decorations. We have a cinema near us and they decorate for you and let you have a room and popcorn and drinks are included in the price.

Off season at a zoo is uaually cheaper as well. The link is below.

Michaels and AC Moore do birthdays - crafts but I think that they might be a little pricey (10.00 a kid) - call them to check. I never had one there.

If you have to do activities -

Go to Nick Jr and find printables under activities and print coloring sheets for the kids to color photos of Bob the Builder. Disney probably has the same thing for the princesses. Coloring is cheap!

Do a pin the crown on the Barbie and pin the hard hat on Bob. You can print, color them with markers yourself and then take them to Staples to be laminated for a few dollars.

The kids can make their own sundaes. You have to buy icecream anyway and it would be cheap to buy a little hot fudge and caramel. It will tie up their time for at least an extra 10 minutes. You can get pink/purple sprinkles for the girls and blue/yellow for the boys.

You can have 2 pinatas. Have them both going at the same time so the kid is standing between the two before you spin them around in circles. This would make it more fun for this age because it is hard for 5 year olds to break pinatas. This was they have a double chance of whacking something.

You can have a backwards party. You answer the door and say goodbye. You wear your clothes backwards, you open presents then eat cake then play games. Kids love that. It is the right age where they think it is hysterical.

Musical chairs never goes out of fashion.

There is the game where you blow up balloons and put a piece of candy in it. The kids have to bounce on their buns on the balloon to break it to get the candy out. It is fun, not good for super hard floors. And make sure the balloons are really inflated otherwise they will bounce for an hour and not break the balloon.

I would go on but I really have to make dinner. You can email me if you need more help. This is kind of my thing. I have 3 kids and I really do parties over the top. ChanaJane3@yahoo.com

Good luck.

Have a party at a pizza place...My 2 sisters split on having a double birthday party for their son and daughter at papa john's.
I want to think it costed maybe 50-60 bucks for an hour & a half.
They did not have 2 birthday cakes either. It was a large cake with half of it made up in Strawberry Shortcake and the other half in Spiderman. It was very cute and pretty.

Instead of buying plates with the characters on the plates get plain ones and buy balloons and centerpieces with that theme you want on them.

If you could rent a large tent to put outside then that would be an ideal.
Good luck to you and tell them happy birthday.

McDonalds is a great idea and cheap!! Plus most McD's have a play area. As for activities that is solved with the play area.
We just fed them gave them goodie bags and had cake and Ice Cream the cake was the only thing besides the goodie bags that we
bought extra. Then presents then clean up the trash and we were out of there. Phew!!! My dd is next week and we are haveing her party at the local pizza place with a play area. Good luck and Happy Birthday to the little ones

How about contacting a neighborhood church to see if you could rent space for the afternoon in their rec hall? If you have the food and clean-up arranged....should be easy. Try the Y, or ask the school teacher for ideas about space rentals. The Parks Dept.? keep on asking, or even a hotel or motel conference room. You can make a few phone calls, just have the date, time needed and amount of guests. Best wishes.

I think I would start having them separate to cut down on cost, but if they like having it together, about the only other place you have not listed is a communty center or some place like Mc Donalds, they are fairly cheap.

Does a family member live in an apartment complex or a trailor park? Lots of the nicer ones have halls to rent out and you can do whatever you want in them.

Try community centers or recreation centers for the place. I work at a rec center, and we rent out our rooms for $145 for 5 hours. I'm sure your community, or even a church, will have something available. Good luck!

I'm not familiar with were you live but I live in PA and we have a couple of Athletic Association buildings that we use for that sort of thing. There like huge buildings that are cheap to rent and are usually right next to our township softball/baseball fields. Best of luck!
