Have you been to the Politics sections lately? They are worthless. Nothing but people calling each other Repuglicans and Democraps, and conservatives baiting liberals, and vice versa.

It's boring!!!

Is there some way we can stop R&S from descending into the same? Does every post *have* to start with either athiests or Christians baiting the other side?

Can't anybody ask a genuine question of the other side, to try and understand them better, rather than ask "rhetorical" questions that have no other purpose than to score a cheap shot?

Is it possible?

And, yes, I do know how to spell 'atheist'. My bad.

Can I get an Amen from the choir on that?

I hear ya, but know what? The only significant difference between the Politics section and the Religion section (don't laugh) is that the overall effect of Christian ethics tends to at least tone down the vitriol here. In other words, people aren't quite as vicious as they are in Politics.

Otherwise, yes, it's the same kind of two-sided dichotomy,"Is...is not...Is...is not!" Its not the intensity of the passions that both disgust and bore me, but the immature trench warfare; the same old "either-or" proposition.

But, you gotta keep reminding yourself where you are. This is a free forum that is understaffed and insufficiently moderated. Yahoo may be using some "word recognition" software, but they depends mostly on participants to report each other - fairly or unfairly.

Personally, I just tend to browse the postings, and pick out that 10% or so that I consider "genuine," and just drive on past the rest. I'm not here to do flame warfare with anyone, just offer honest answers where I can.

I wish I could offer you some encouragement...

I'm afraid it's sometimes even worse in R and S than in the politics section.
Some people seem to think the only way they can push their beliefs is by insulting those of other beliefs, and too often they are mindless insults. If at least people would bring out concrete things to condemn, and insult on that basis! It would seem less stupid. But the human mind has a natural tendancy to be extremely lazy, and to find the simplest form of argument, which is by insult.
Then too, you have the "provocateurs" who are obviously from the opposite side they are pretending to be on, to make some really outrageous insults, in order to get others angry. I think they are called "trolls" on YA.

When people with differing views end up in the same room, there will always be debate. However asking a quality question, with the intent to gain understanding is possible. Why don't you go ahead and ask and see if people can behave and not turn it into a free for all...

I was sort of wondering the same thing... I love to debate though and I love that there are people on this of differing faiths... it allows me the opportunity to check myself, dig into my Bible, and make sure I'm standing on solid ground. Plus, it helps me to understand the way other people think so that I am better prepared to have an intellgient discussion in "real life". But it does get pretty nasty and that's sad. I try to always just stay positive!

Be blessed!

Unfortunately some people are too stubborn to do so. Some people would rather go around insulting eachother like a bunch of morons rathen then hear each other out and come to a solution that works best for eveyrbody.

I don't think anyone answers the really stupid taunts. "did barney get on the Ark?" Some are harder to tell if there is any substance or real interest in the ?.

And some people will answer anything. I guess we could call them the 2 points whores. LOL not really just kidding

No, I think it's too late. I try to find a place where I can have an intelligent conversation, whether we agree or not, but it's hard to find. There is no excuse for adults to resort to name-calling. You folks should have left that back in the school yard. I have a T-shirt that says "my inner child thinks you're a big poopy-face!"

Hehe. Sounds like the R&S section. I think those who go here like to get a rise out of each other. We all have our opinions, and can be pretty adament about them being right. I sometimes feel frustrated with it a lot. Sincerity is something we need a lot more of in this world.

both sections have been exactly the same for the past 6 months, IMHO.

Here there is at least a chance for civic debate. The Politics section is and has been nothing but vile and vitriol for as long as I've seen it.

First of all, I'm a Muslim, even though I sometime debate with the atheists.

Second, usually I just want to know atheists more, so I could use intriguing more often, I like that word, and I like to say it.

Third, rethorical has it's use. Ever study algebra? It's all hypothetical and rethorical ideas of numbers.
