I am a highschool student and take concerta. i do not see any severe side effects in my case, but dry mouth, and tics can often occur. my appetite has gone down considerably, and it is a bit frustrating when i am not hungry at dinner or lunch time. i usually really start to eat around 8 pm when it wears off. but i think it is worth it, if it works.

I have a 6 year old on concerta he was diagnosed with ADHD in december my main reason for putting him on it was he was having alot of trouble focusing in school they started him out on 18mg than uped it to 27 he has been doing great on it, the first two weeks his appetite wasn't that good (so I made him a bigger breakfast in the mornings as his appetite decreased in the afternoon) but it's back to normal now other than that he has had no other side effects, and his last two reports cards have showed great improvement, also my son's doctor asked me if my son had any history of heart problems because concerta has been known to cause deaths in children with heart problems, hope this helps good luck

Concerta can cause dry mouth, tics, it will cause a person not to want to eat. My best friends son was on it, and he had a worse time on concerta than he had dealing with the hyperactivity, it also caused him to have severe mood swings, she finely had to take him off of it. This will not happen to every child though so the only way to know for certain is just to let the child be on it, and watch closely for side affects.

Concerta, Adderall, and Stratera are the 3 ADHD medicines I've known my students to use that DIDN'T work well for them. Perhaps these children were misdiagnosed (that's a real possibility). Perhaps not. From what I understand, these different medicines require some time and dosage adjustments for each child. Keep working with your son's doctor to find out what's right for him. A great idea would be for him to keep a daily journal of how he feels as he experiments with them.

Each of the meds works so differently in each kid.. My son is currently on Strattera 32 mg a day. He is behaving wonderfully. No problems (well no more than a normal 5 year old) at home and his teacher says that he is perfect! His grades are awesome and his teacher is pleased with his progress. Prior he was on focaline that helped for a while and then it stopped... concerta he was a ZOMBIE on... he lost 15 pounds and was as frail as he could have gotten.

My son is ADD the Dr. wanted to try him on it. I took him off. He had terrible migraines. he is on nothing and doing just fine.... ask for info on Stratera they say its easier on the kids but still helps. I just chose to make " lifestyle" changes instead. I made his study area noise and distraction free, and I started organizing for him.
