It is kind of funny how people of certain religious beliefs here are attempting to use fear and threats in order to get people to accept their ways of "love and tolerance".

It's like Acids and Bases. Two polar opposites will always react strongly. Atheism is strongly corrosive to the organizations made up of those who have belief in a higher power. Claiming that there is no higher power undermines the entire basis for religion.

Imagine how you might be tempted to react if someone said to you that everything you have ever been raised to love and believe in is fake. Imagine that someone told you that your family has lied to you, and your friends have been duped too. Imagine being told by a single person that everyone you have ever looked up to, confessed to, believed in, and loved is either lying to you about everything or is just as much a sucker as you are.

I don't think it is fear that drives "non-atheists" to attack atheists. It's outrage at the defamation of everything you love.

Logic doesn't enter in to it. Is it right to attack someone for defaming everything you hold sacred and holy? No. Do some feel driven by their passion to do it? Most certainly.

If Atheism simply was the act of not believing in God, as is every ones right, then not much antagonism would exist. Proselytizing to convert others to their way of non-belief immediately puts them at odds with those who believe. It is an inherently antagonistic arrangement between those two ways of thinking. When only one is right and the entire issue divides families and countries, there is bound to be some attacking going on.

Why is every group going around complaining about being attacked by other groups? You sound like the Jehovah's Witnesses used to do - creating persecution for themselves, so people would say "oh, the poor J-W's. If they are persecuted like that, they must be right!" They have abandonned that tactic: it no longer works. Perhaps you should follow suit and abandon that sort of thinking.

i am not atheist but i am not christian either, but the ones I see attacking atheist the most are christians.. the also attack other religions as well.. so........ I think it is due to the fact they have it dead set that christianity is the only religion and if they do not keep on and on until someone converts then they may not get into their heaven..

I have witnessed that to in the religion/spiritual category. I am not an atheist, but I still try to listen with an open mind. I believe that we can all learn alot from each other. I'm not one to try to push my beliefs unpon others, I just want to grow and learn.

You must be joking. From what I've seen on here, everybody attacks everybody, and the atheists draw as much blood as they shed. I try not to attack anyone, but when I get accused of it simply for stating my beliefs, I shrug and go on.

I am a Christian. I have not attacked any atheist. I am not afraid of anything, especially the inability of God being in control.

Non-atheists is a double negative meaning theists.

...

They are afraid. Afraid that they may be wrong and the atheists are right.

Most of what I have seen on here it's been the other way around.
and anything I have said on here to an Atheists was not an attack
I do respond in disagreement. I do believe in God when someone Say's something to discard him I will say something, but it's not to attack.
In Christ I will stand.

i think they do it because its a sort of tribal thing.

(been reading a bit of Sam Harris :D)

basically were not think their little comfort community. we dont beleive as they do. naturally we dislike or mistrust those who arent in our communities. they dont like us because we dotn share the same values they do, we dont beleive as they do and we dont put emphasis on the things they do (religion, god, guns)

because of that were seen as outsiders. and since were outaiders were worthy of insults, cat calls and ugly comments.

is it fear? might be. fear of the unknown....its a possibility

but i think its lack of education or understanding about nonbelievers.

there was a question just a little while ago about wether atheists believe in that "do unto others..." olden rule thing.

the answer should be MORE than obvious and should be applied to ALL people on the planet. yet this person was aking...that shows a lack of common sense for -not just atheists- but a whole lot of other groups of people.

fear? not really.

lack of education (and i dont mean school)

yes.
