Heat. Intense heat melts metal, all metals have a melting point. I use solder to join wires and I usually use a temperature setting of 600~700 degrees Fahrenheit to metal the tin that the solder is made from. Heavier metals, such as iron require a lot more to become liquefied (^2500F).

people melt the metals with respect to their melting point.
every metals have their own melting point. hence they would choose a method that depends on a certain metal at a given melting point.. for example gallium, it will melt at ur bare hands

You can melt lead on your stove. The others have too high a melting point, except for mercury. Be careful not to add water to molton lead. Could explode.
