During the course of a day I have the experience of my foot becoming very hot and then cooling down - this occurs reapeatedly. The sensation has occurred daily for the last week, and now seems to have shifted to a lesser exent to my knee...

Does anyone have any ideas as to what the cause or meaning of this may be?

Thanks

and, further to above, do you have any other illnesses such as diabetes?

Are you mobile or disabled? Are you average weight, overweight, obese?

Is there any pain associated with the heat? Does your foot swell up at all? Both feet or just the one?

Thanks for the additional info. If it comes and goes throughout the day then I would think that it is not infective, eg cellulitis as this would get progressively worse and, after a week, you'd be banging down the doors at the A&E. The fact that it is only the one foot suggests that it is not an allergic response to your clothing or shower gel as the other foot would do the same.

So the skin gets red? Is it itchy or painful?
Is there any joint stiffness in the foot, ankle or knee?
What job do you do? Could there be any connection?
Any recent trauma or injury to that leg?

You need to see a doctor really as it could be a problem with your arteries or veins.

Good luck

i am a student nurse and would put these symtoms down to poor venous return, this is basically poor circulation, always makw sure that you keep your foot warm and i would book in to see you G.P as it might be cellulitus and a simple course of medication will clear it right up
