I'll give you the honest answers about Vista and Xp.

I have xp and also windows 98 and Vista and Vista hands down beats them all and I'll give you some reasons why.

Windows Vista has 2 things that really make it better right up front.

1. You can right click on the hard drive in Device Manager and set your hard drive to ENABLE ADVANCED PERFORMANCE and it speeds up your hard disk readings alot.

Excellent for gaming I might add

Now if you can get a Dell there is one that is cheaper and faster and better at hp. Go to http://www.hpshopping.com

I got an AMD (Remember amd is better than Intel for gaming) duo core with 2 gigs memory.

WIth vista get as much memory as you can possible get.

If you are getting a new computer make sure it has vista as by having xp on it you have immediatly brought the value of it down.

If you go on ebay.com for example, the computers that have vista on it are fetching better prices.

Also they are not going to suppor xp after a while so folks with xp will be left in the dark with no updates for viruses etc.. as Microsoft won't support it.

If you had an old computer with 1 gig memory in it and lets say it was 2.3 ghz I would say yeah stick with xp.

But if you are getting a new computer you'll wan't vista.

I have heard lots of negative things about vista too but when I press the person and ask them if they have vista they say no.

Most, not all, but most folks that talk bad about Vista do so because of the $100+ price tag of it and they don't want to say they can't afford it or are cheap so they bash it instead.

Last but not least, most viruses spyware and adware are all written for xp and windows 98 but it is rare to have them written for vista so you have less problems.

I promise you that you will love vista.

Even if you didn't you can get xp cheap off of ebay.com so don't stress it.

I would not go less than 2 gigs memory though. Check out hpshopping.com I looked at dell and gateway compaq and for the money and the speed and the bells and whistles you won't be able to beat hp

I never owned an hp before and I have had 9 computers so far and the hp one is my favorite ever.

They have a cool thing you can do at the site where you can customize it.

If you are going to be doing heavy graphics or gaming or video editing get an amd not intel. If you plan on just using it for no more than sending email or surfing or typing documents Intel will do.

But I have intell systems and amd and amd is God of speed.

Ask em ! some are buying a dell with no operating system and using the price reduced windows xp and xp-pro. I heard that windows vista works ok in new computers but not older ones. And I also heard that a lot of older programs that ran fine on xp won't run on Vista at all.
Good Luck !

Vista. some human beings say Vista makes use of up lots equipment ram. it rather is real. Vista makes use of those ram to hurry up the pc. Thats why there is no longer lots unfastened ram. Xp wastes those unfastened ram doing no longer something. Vista is much extra properly suited than XP than u think of it rather is. Vista hasn't any subject to me for a million year already. Vista is swifter while establishing utility and beginning up the pc. some human beings evaluate XP via fact they are too used to XP or they are gamer. it style of feels vista is slower in video games with the aid of 2-5 fps. No huge deal. VISTa!
