I live in an area that has both. The Boston Globe did a comparison of how much a typical family would spend for their food at each of the chain supermarkets. Stop and Shop came out among the worst (almost as pricey as Whole Foods) and Shaw's was almost as high as Stop and Shop.

Since Albertsons bought Shaw's they have gone downhill on produce quality. Stop and Shop never was that great on produce (managers were always pissing off the clerks who retaliated by bashing the fruit).

Clerks are more courteous in Shaw's (will stop what they are doing to answer questions or to bring you to things you can't locate).
Market Basket by the way beat them all on pricing in this region.

quit & save is the nicest many times happening food market. additionally look at entire ingredients. dealer Joe's is an exciting area of expertise food market chain. Very "modern" and sounds like it would be a exciting place to paintings. they have some places in the Boston section yet no longer many.
