Typical day? Waking up in a different city, missing home, yet traveling to different cities and not having to pay for a hotel room, working on an airplane dealing with smelly bathrooms and rude passengers- yet having 24 hours in cities like San Fransisco where you get to walk around, or spending 30 hours in Munich, Germany on the hunt for the perfect beer.
Sometimes having to be "on call" 24 hours a day- just when you finally fall asleep- scheduling calls- get up and get to the airport- you are going to Mexico City!
Thinking that you are going to sleep the night in Vegas but then you get re-routed to Salt Lake City.
Working a very smooth flight then suddenly someone has a medical emergency and you have to administer first aid.
Waking up in NYC one day and having NO CLUE what city you will sleep in that night!
Living in a "crashpad" with 8 or 9 people- in a two bedroom apt!
Trying to commute from your hometown to your base- you keep getting bumped off the flight and have to spend two extra days in base instead of home.
But then- you get all kinds of discounts for travel- hotel rooms, cruises, car rentals-
Just be prepared to spend little time at home unless you are lucky enough to be based in the same city you live.
I am single and find it very exciting!

People think being a FA is a glamourous job, but really it's not and the pay isn't great.

You wake up, go the the airport and report for your flight. On most airlines the position you work on the flight (first class, coach, galley hag, etc) is related to seniority. You will do preflight checks, safety demonstrations and help passengers find their seats and stow their baggage before the plane takes off. During flight you will serve food and beverages, watch for safety violations and assist passengers as needed. Upon landing you will assist passengers as they deplane, and depending on the airline, you may have to collect blankets, and trash before the cleaning crew comes on board.

When you reach your final desitination for the night, you take a van to the crew hotel, which can be nice or a crappy. Depending on the layover you could have time to do some sight seeing or you may only have time to sleep.

Most airlines start new FAs as reserve, or on call. This means you sit in a room and wait for a flight. You have little control over your schedule in the beginning. The good assignments and schedules come with time. The more seniority you have the better flights and schedules you get.

Most airlines will allow you to assign registered guests, usually parents, spouse/significant other, and children. While your registered guests can fly for free, they fly 'non-rev' or standby and are the last to get a seat on the plane. You will also have a certian number of buddy passes for friends to use, which are not free. You can recieve discipline if your guests or those using your buddy passes break the airlines regulations, laws or are rude to airline employees.

One thing that I think isn't mentioned enough and I found to be a big surprise was how often you have to be someone's nurse. It seems there is always someone getting sick in the aisle or in the bathroom. Or someone who is coughing their head off and want to hand you snotty tissues.... It's all too gross. Ah the glamorous life of a airline employee.....
