Well, my boyfriend suffers depression and I try everything I can to help him, but being stereotypically male in some ways, he won't open up enough for me to really talk to him. So, I try to give him his space whenever he needs it, sometimes I don't see him for 10 days or more, but I try to leave him alone if that's what he needs. Does that sound intolerant to you?

No i don't think so , i think its more a case of men don't like to admit to be seen as having a mental health illness there is still such a stigma attached to it ... men just hide it better , i know plenty of women married to depressed men !

I think it just seems like more women than men have these kind of problems because in most cases women are more open about it.

I guess a lot of men don't usually appear to get depressed as they don't let a huge amount of emotional things effect them. Once something happens to them they generally let it go over their heads and don't wollow. Women are far more emotional and find it hard to forget and just let things wash over them. I don't think its that Men are more tolerant as a caring woman would be as tollerant of a Man if he were depressed.

Perhaps it's marrying the men that give the women depression?!?

You may find that men learn to "switch" off, where as women some times find this harder to do.Therefore men don't become open to problems, they leave that for the women.lol

You know...i think so..but we women like to tell people what we are feeling every time...however, men..keep it in so its hard for us to like understand making it harder for us to tolerate
