I have requested a later shipping date, which took a week for my recruiter to get me in contact with the right people to be able to request, the the MSGT i talked to told me I need to write a letter and he would submit it. I don't know if this is the proper procedures or just the run around. I have cited that my current ship out date would cause financial hardship on my parents do to a series of event having to do with my medical bills, college loans and other bills. I asked if i couldn't get a new date to be released from DEP with the option to later return. Is it really that difficult to get a date change when you did not already have a job just a guaranteed Aptitude area? what are the chance of my date getting changed. they asked for a notarized letter from my parents, but my parents would prefer I just not enlist.... so instead i gave the option of date change or release. Just wanna know the odds of getting it changed! and what to do if the don't!

First off... Thank you for going through the DEP process! I am a retired AF recuiter. Unfortunately there is a lot of behind the scene things that have to happen in order for you to go to BMT. One of those things is your Aptitude Area.... It doesn't matter which one Elec, Mech, Gen, Admin. it in of itself IS a job, you just pick from a broader list when you get to BMT. The Aptitude Areas are tied to jobs that are starting around the time after you graduate from BMT. That is why you have to write a letter for an extension. If it is bills that are needed to be paid that are in YOUR NAME you can get a deferment from paying those bills while you are in training for the military (Soldiers and Sailors ACT). If it is a school loan the Air Force will be able to pay that off if you get a promissary note from the originator of the loan.

My parents didn't want me to join either kid. Now they see why... I have a retirement check every month, I have full medical for me and my family for a mere $460 A YEAR!.... and I also get a healthy paycheck from where I am employed now.... Ask your parents if they can top that and I am not even 40 years old yet!

I know it sounds like they (recruiter) are pushing you around ... It is just very hard to move you to another date.... And once your moved it will more than likely be to a time and job that you are going to like less than what you have now......At least with the AP area you will have your choice in BMT....

You are getting a classic run around. If you have only been put into the Delayed Enlistment Program -it is only a moral obligation to go. You are not under a service obligation to ship out until you raise your hand a second time at MEPS on your ship date. Tell your recruiter to either change your aptitude area (as long as you meet the academic and physical qualifications for the area or AFSC you want) or DEP discharge you immediately. Chances are hat you Will get your change job and date. Good luck!

tell them that you want to reno. it is a simple form and then you would go back to meps. you might have to pick a new mos and also lose your bonus if you have one.
