I'm not actually all that fond of wicca.. its a new age neo-pagan religion.. anyone really serious would be a witch.. and they would do thier initiate training and study (if they could find a group to accept them that is.. its not a pay & play religion like Xtians)

Now I dont mean to be degrading here, just honest (what ever religion you choose is perfectly fine by me, as long as it dosent affect me personally).. but as far as i can tell.. about the only thing someone needs to be a wiccan is a pentagramme necklace or tattoo.. and learn how to say the words 'blessed be"

I actually get slightly upset when someone refers to me as a wiccan.. but only slightly... and I correct em ...

Addendum: Another thing I will warn you about....
Beware of fakes.. just like xtian preachers and false prophets there are many fakes out there.. 2 easy ways to spot em..
#1 they want yer money.. thats not what its about (Fracking hardly.. you have to work for it in even that religion)
#2 if the person runnig the bit is a male.. Ummm thats a hint fer yer ***.. its a femme diety domme religion.. No males should ever be in charge unless the prestiess died suddenly and they havent picked a new one

Oh yeah thats another requirement of initiates (newbies) you are expected to learn all religions as much as you can and even atten thier services.. thats a preschool requirement.. and you are expected to keep it up through yer lifetime too (Like I said its not a pay and play religion like being an xtian where you just show up and throw a few $ in the plate LOL)

It depends on whether you wish to be a Traditional Wiccan or an Eclectic Wiccan.

Traditional Wicca is initiatory, teachings passed down. Traditional Wicca is a priesthood. Tradition Wicca traces itself back to a man named Gerald Gardner. To become a traditional Wiccan you need to find a coven or a teacher willing to teach you.

Eclectic is; a little of this, a little of that, pieced together. To become an Eclectic Wiccan is a matter of reading some books and declaring yourself to be Wiccan or by joining an Eclectic coven.

The most important thing about being a Wiccan to me is reverence for all living things, the world and the universe and understanding my place in the grand scheme.

I was a Witch long before I became a Wiccan

Hello...firstly I'm a Pagan not a wiccan but a Celtic pagan (err cos I'm pagan and a Celt)
You need to ask yourself why you want to follow the wiccan path, what is it that attracts you? Have you looked at other pagan belief systems? If you are in the UK contact Graham at the Museum of Witchcraft as Boscastle in Cornwall they have a web site. I'm sure he would put you in touch with a group local to you that may help you.

Just do me one BIG favour, dint go down the Buffy path eh?!
Wicca is a fairly new following circa 1940's but there are many others that may suit you. Just depends on what you want from it.

True Wiccans will eye you with suspicion with regards joining their group, you are going to have to prove yourself that you can be trusted, so dont expect a ceremony within the first 2 yrs!

Good luck I hope you find what you are looking for

Solitary wicca: You make the choice to be wiccan. Often a private dedication ritual is constructed and performed.

Coven-oriented Wicca: Depends on the tradition. Usually study for a year and a day (symbolizing eternity), then a dedication/initiation ceremony. Some do a dedication at the beginning of the period of study, then formally initiate at the conclusion thereof.

Becoming wiccan is like becoming a part of any other religion. All it takes is faith. Wicca is one of the onlyn religion's that accept's all people. We do not descriminate and as with all other religion's we have the do unto other's rule. Wicca allow's you to do your own thing and believe what you will. It is about becoming one with nature. There is manyn piece's of literature available if you are truly interested in learning. There is even an "idiot's guide". Feel free to contact me if you would like.

I might sound like I'm degrading Wicca, but here it goes.

To become a Wicca, you have to call yourself a Wicca.

Just about anyone can call himself a witch, and find practices that he likes and incorporate them into a spiritual practice. I think a lot of witches view this as a strength of Witchcraft.

But Wicca isn't an "Organized religion," it doesn't police itself with scriptures, culture, or polity the way Religions such as Islam, Hinduism, Judaism and Buddhism do.

(Added: Oops, I forgot to mention practicing Wicca with others. You can join a coven or other group. But that group is going to be largely independent of structured scriptures, culture, or polity as well.)

you become Wiccan if the path is right for you. THe philosophy is more important than the tools, the imagery: if it harms none, do what thy will. What you do comes back upon you three times over. there are many paths to spirituality, and each of them have validity and are to be respected. if you can agree with thosae three points, you're in the neighborhood.

You study it for a year and a day, join a coven or not, etc. Study study study... and that it cause no harm, do as ye will.

The most important think is in becoming Wiccan is to follow the Rede, which I paraphrased above.
