It's transmitted blood to blood, so the most common transmition is via sex. But If a mosquito bites an infected person, then bites a non infected person then certainly, this is a way for the disease to spread.

Just in case you are paranoid - AIDS might logically spread this way too.... just like sharing needles. Doesn't make it likely though. if you weighed up all the "risks" in life, you'd never leave the house.

When I was at university I got a job as a diver's mate putting the dirty laundry from local hosptals into a van to take to the laundry. The nurses and orderlies changed the beds, putting most into black bags..... soiled sheets into white bages... and sheets from people with transmittable diseases into stripy bags.

Then they tossed them down the chute.

They split open....

Guess who then picked then all up with some loose gloves and a boiler suit? Some days the gloves were missing as well.

I lived. take the injections (if any) that the GP recommends, then go to South Africa and stop worrying. :)

Some would say no others Yes and a lot of other deceases as well. Although I haven't heard of such a thing happening.
If your visiting the African continent it is advised that you have a Hip jab anyway this is common practise but remember that you can't cover yourself for every illness and eventuality.
Besides the chances of you catching a contagious decease is a million to one so enjoy yourself and don't worry, after all if it happens there's nothing you can do about it anyway.
One more thing I would visit your doctor and discuss any worries with her/him and they will be able to make sure your covered for the most common deceases and will be able to give you advice to put your mind at rest.
All the best,
Andrew D

The studies have said NO, but I dont think they understand, the dangers of these diseases,as I personally think YES,even though the mosquito sucks, and doesn't inject,if the mossie was to have someone elses blood on its snout, why wouldnt it be infecting the other person,so just take PERCAUTIONS

No, this and HIV do not transmit through mosquitos.

Check with your doc for any vaccinations you may need.

Have a wonderful trip!
