Be honest with him. Tell him that you just see him as a friend and you just don't feel the same. Tell him he is a nice guy and bring his self-esteem up and say that there will be someone else who likes him for who he is. (Kinda even out the "rejection.") You just don't feel the same way.

Compliment and reject him at the same time, but very nicely, and use the right words. Saying things like this, with a genuine apologetic smile, will work: "You're an amazing friend, and you'd probably make a great boyfriend, but I don't think it would work out for the both of us. You'll thank me later. I'm really sorry, though." or "The right girl is out there and waiting for you. I'm sorry, but I'm not her. I don't think I need to use up your time, especially if you were to meet her while we were going out. You could miss out on her just for me, and I don't want that to happen. Keep waiting, and she'll come around someday."

If you slept with this guy, tell him that you feel that you would be better as just friends and that you aren't attracted to him enough to want him as a boyfriend.
However, you may want to rethink how long you spend with a person before you sleep with him. Give it more thought next time so that the guy doesn't get hurt.

The really bad news is that if he likes you...there is no 'easy' way. As the saying goes..the truth hurts!! But that's better than allowing him to think there's hope. Just tell him the truth and say it to him as though someone were saying it to you. How would you want to hear it? Be gentle, be honest!

Say.....You are really a nice guy and we have had alot of fun together. I don't deserve you. You need someone more special than I because you are so special. I am going to leave you go so you can find your special person. I want us always to be friends. Please don't hate me. You will thank me some day. Good luck ...bye

either way he's is going to be crushed, tell him how you feel:
i think we should stay freinds"
do NOT lead him on, do NOT flirt with him.
i just rips you apart inside when you love a girl but all she does is lead you down a road with nothing at the end.
