It used to be (30-40 yrs ago) that, in most relationships, the man was the dominant figure.

That began to change during the 1970's and 1980's, where the roles of the man and woman started to become more equal. The economics were such that it became difficult for a family to comfortably live on just the salary of the husband. The wife went to work to supplement the husband's salary, and their roles changed to more of an equal partnership.

Presently, an equal partnership seems to be necessary, at least from a money standpoint. But, I'm sure that there are plenty of power struggles within families over who's the boss.

Also, there are plenty of instances where the woman is the dominant figure in a relationship. Some men are quite comfortable with this sort of an arrangement.

I suppose that all three situations can be found very easily today. The decision as to who, if anyone, takes on the role of the dominant figure in a relationship has a tendency to work itself out according to what the partners are most comfortable with.

The Bible talks on this: the man is supposed to have a form of domimance. But not in a controlling or abusive way. If the woman truly loves the man, then she should trust him to make decisions instead of trying to hard to rule him herself. You should look into where the Bible talks about this or ask someone who knows. Men are supposed to be leaders of the family, how can they lead if women are trying to rule them?
