A cat only does this when she really likes a person; it's a sign of affection... When she was little she did this on her mummy's belly in order to get some milk. Sometimes it can really hurt when a cat does this "milking" but on the other hand, I don't really mind when they do it because at the moment I feel so close to them!

My cats do that if they feel they are slipping off. It hurts. They do this instinctively. You can see for yourself. If a cat is on the bed and to go to pick him up he diggs in his claws to the bed. If he is up on a pearch and you shake the perch he will dig in. I find it is just better to keep a towel or small blanket handy and put that on my lap when they want to come up. That way if they start to slide off or if you suddenly move or twitch, or sometimes when they go to jump off they will dig in their rear claws, their claws won't hurt you. .

It is called kneading or mixing. It is actually a sign of contentment. When kittens feed on their mother's teats it is a reflex action. Face it, the cat loves you! Strange way to show affection, but hey, it's a cat and that's what they do!

What you are reffering to is called padding. The cats do this when they are happy or very relaxed. It is nothing out of the ordinary all cats do it. You will often see kittens doing this when they are trying to nurse on their mothers, so that they can get more milk. When the kittens get older they will pad on things when they are happy, feel safe, or just very relaxed.

She is probably just kneading. Lots of cats do this, especially when they pur. I had a male that would lay on my pillow at night and do this to my head--ouch! Before she gets on your lap next time grab a towel or a blanket to protect yourself.

The cat is "kneeding" which is an instinct learned when it was a kitten when she kneeded the breast to increase milk flow. It means the cat is happy with you, comfortable and content like it was with its mother.

My cats do that all the time. Its a sign of them being content, even though it hurts!

that tells you she is content being with you, so be happy she digs in your lap, if she did not like you she would not stay on your lap no matter what you did.
