Hi. I take it your from the uk. The DDa and RSPCa are currently seizing all pitbull type dogs and having them destroyed regardless of there temperment. At the moment there going from county to county doing this bit by bit. The amnestys are happening more and more.

Grrr this subject really does make my blood boil. Im very much against the DDA and these idiots are destroying loyal family dogs. Banning a breed or labelling at as dangouras is pure ignorance!! What also annoys me is they cant tell a pitbull from a horses *** and many staffords and crosses have been seized and destroyed also.

I agree with them wanting to stop the dog fighting but by banning a breed it makes them more desirable to the idiots who want to fight them.

Its not the breed of dog thats dangouras its the moorons who own them and train them to be agressive for there cool bad *** images. Give them a poodle and they can train that to be the same.

You can keep tags on the amnesty by going on the DDA website.

Sorry rant over, as you can guess I own a bull breed. (staffordshire Bull terrier)

Most owners are not as they know they will be put down.

The law is hard to enforce as Pit Bull Terriers (which are illegal) can be almost impossible for an untrained police officer to tell apart from a Staffordshire Bull Terrier (which are not illegal and are very popular pets in the UK)

Also Pit Bull Terriers are often sold in the UK as American Staffordshires or even Irish Staffordshires.

This problem is made worse by the fact that both these breeds are trained to be psycho's by chav's,who own them for street cred and to protect drugs and stolen property, which gives them a bad name. This is sad as both breeds are superb pets when well trained.

Yes thats right Pit Bulls can be great pets.

Finally there are many dogs around which contain both Staff and Pit Bull blood and these, though illegal, are even harder to tell from Staffies than regular Pit Bulls are.

I believe the 1st poster that reported the canine in CA did no longer do something risky before. no person has the telepathic means to correctly known what a canine will do or might do. The state is generalizing particular breeds via fact they have the better predisposition to do some thing risky. With that being stated, small canine breeds at the instant are not lined throughout this? That pisses me off via fact ppl are much less in all risk to document a smaller canine biting or attempting to maul somebody. that does no longer mean their temperament shouldnt be evaluated and categorised as probably risky ( i assume the smaller breeds are excluded via fact on the top of the day their injury is minimum ). and that i believe u wen it comes all the way down to obeying the ordinance, basically in charge and regulation abiding proprietors will comply and go through while their canines are extra advantageous than in all risk no longer the topic. And the area with the canine that seems comparable to the breed yet no longer blended with you would be able to additionally be positioned on the DDO classification...it rather is bull via fact uneducated ppl will call a lab a pit bull ( and the owner of that lab has to conform with the ordinance via fact it resembles the pit bull......? i'm thinking that once returned this all falls into the communicate of solid proprietors vs. undesirable proprietors. Few continually go through for the movements of maximum human beings. The state isn't taking a raffle the two way.

Denver pit bull ban draws dog lovers' ire
Protesters smuggle canines to safety
By Jeff Kass, Globe Correspondent | July 6, 2005

DENVER -- Within the last month, more than 200 pit bulls have been plucked from the municipal animal shelter and euthanized as the city cracks down on the sometimes-dangerous breed. That has sparked a petition drive to overturn the pit bull ban and fueled a sort of canine underground railroad in which dog lovers secretly ferry the outlawed animals out of town.....

More at link. I understand they have confiscated over 1,400 dogs and killed than since this started just for looking like a pit bull and without even so much as growling.

the so called 'amnesty' was a knee jerk reaction to the events of new years when the child was killed by an out of control pit bull terrier that was owned by an idiot owner! the police had given owners of so called 'dangerous dogs' X amount of weeks to hand their dogs in to be destroyed-if they didnt and the general public had 'shopped' a suspected pit terrier type dog-the police would raid the owners property and seize the dog anyway! it doesnt matter that the dog may be a genuine staffie x labrador for instance, and somebodies much loved pet without aggression, if it looks like a pit terrier and matches the 'standard' it would have still been seized and destroyed! only the responsible dog owners brought their pets in, while the few 'hardcore' dog fighters/breeders would NOT have brought their dogs in! thus family pets who were not and did not show any form of aggression have been destroyed without any form of temperament tests or genetic tests to confirm or disprove whether the dog was of 'genuine' pit bull type!

only god knows.
i have a doberman and a dalmatian.
my dal (not that he ever would) is more likely to attack than my doberman.
all the so called aggressive breeds like dobermans, rotties, german sheppards, staffies etc ive ever met have been incredibly gentle dogs because they were bread well and brought up by responsible owners.
too much stereo type hype going on i think!

If you're talking about dogs that have been banned from certain cities it's my understanding that the owners of the banned breeds have at least 30 days to find homes for their dogs outside of city or county limits. If the dog is'nt re-homed then the owners must turn the dog over to be put down.
If you are talking about a dog that has bitten someone then the dog must be turned over to Animal Control and will be put down within 24 hrs.in most places.
If you refuse to hand the dog over after it's bitten someone then you will be arrested and fined and the dog still gets pulled from it's home and put down within 24 hrs.
With these new BSLs going into effect all over people should be put on notice that they MUST BE RESPONSIBLE PET OWNERS.A dog is considered property. It cannot speak up to defend itself in court or to the police after it has done the only thing it could to defend itself in alot of cases. It's up to you-the dog owner to insure your dog is safe from Joe Q.Public.Take the dog with you when you go into another room rather than leave it unattended with small children.Confine the dog in another room when you have guests over.People CANNOT be trusted around dogs.EVER.Discourage strangers from petting your dog without asking you first. If the poor dog was a child and some stranger forced him/herself on it they'd be looking at child molestation charges.WHY does everyone figure a dog on a leash is there simply for their pleasure and is supposed to submit to unwanted attention whether it wants to or not.Again a dog is considered property. It belongs to someone. If it's not yours then keep your hands off!
Dogs have wants and needs just like we do.they have got to have the proper amount of exercise to stay happy and healthy. You cannot get a dog and expect it to sit in a corner quietly until you feel like paying attention to it.You can't keep it on a chain or in a kennel or inside your house no matter how nice your home is.If you don't provide for the dogs needs it becomes resentful and it's an accident waiting to happen. And happen it will. The owner gets a fine. The dog pays with it's life!
And as for what is actually happening-Our law-makers are wasting the taxpayers money on their salaries so they can sit around and think up ways to keep people from being able to use any means to protect their property or themselves from harm.
It's illegal to shoot someone who has broken into your home and if your dog attacks a stranger INSIDE your home at 3a.m. God help YOu if the dog is on the so called Dangerous Dog List.It does'nt matter if the cops find the guy with all your valuables in a bag at his feet and a broken window or door to show how he gained access. The burglar can and most likely WILL presses charges against you and you have no choice but to turn your dog over to the authorities until a trial can be held to decide whether the dog should be put down or not and you're still legally liable for the medical bills the burglar has over the attack! In this state they're still trying to force owners of dogs on this stupid list to muzzle their dogs when outside evan in their own fenced yards! It's going to be a great comfort to me as I'm being raped by someone whose broken into my home when my dogs were outside muzzled to know that I'm not the one breaking the law should it pass legislation.

I know 6 bull terrier types were removed by the dog warden from a house by mine!

I feel really sorry for the dogs, but owners like theirs deserve it for not looking after the dogs the way they should.

Now i can walk my lovely labrador without the worry of him getting attacked by the monsters down the road.
