The thyroid, among other things, regulates your "basal metabolic rate." This just means it controls how much energy you burn during daily functions each day (cell growth, chemical production, etc). To allow your thyroid to work, you need "Thyroid Stimulating Hormone" (TSH). TSH stimulates you thyroid, whichh in turn affects your other cells in order to achieve your basal metabolic rate. If your TSH is high, that means your thyroid can't/isn't responding to the proper stimulation, and can mean you have "hypothyroidism". There are several drugs available for this, such as synthroid that should help quite a bit. Best of luck.

If your thyroid is underactive it means your thyroid gland that's situated in your throat area isn't producing enough thyroid hormone. Underactive thyroid is more common than overactive (which I suffer from). You will probably be given thyroxine tablet to be taken everyday.
Don't worry too much, your doctor should give you all the information you need when you get the blood results back - he may refer you to a specialist at your local hospital.
On the plus side I was told that if you suffer from an underactive thyroid you will get your prescriptions for FREE!!!
Good luck!!

I have the same problem, it just means that your whole body is running on a slowed down system, it you feel tired all the time, cold, have no energy, digestive system will be slower, but it can be helped by taking thyroxene tablets, which you will have to take for the rest of your life.
