Don't people get it? It's like a car....you can be given a free car, but you can't drive it without a valid driver's license, current registration, gas, insurance, etc. Money money money. You can get a free dog, but you have to pay vet bills, food, toys, treats, emergencies, etc. Nothing about owning a dog translates to "free".

Why are people always asking for FREE dogs?

Vomde, I'm trying to understand WHY though. No initial cost to them, but why not be willing to pay for a dog? Makes me wonder if these are the same people on here asking how to care for a dog that desperately needs medical attention without going to a vet.

Because they have no idea what it is to own a dog. They want, with no regard of the meaning.

They really don't think about their dogs future. Really though, if you spend $600 on a purebred you would still have to pay for food and vet bills, so you still are getting a bit of a deal on a free dog.

Seriously though, I don't understand why people wont just go to a shelter and adopt a dog, they come with all their shots and everything and will end up being alot cheaper then getting a free dog.

Excellent point!

The truth of the thing is that people do not want to pay for the dog, they want it to pay for its self, clean up its messes- and chip in with the rent! ;)

People who think dogs are all fun and games, Are the reasons so many are in pounds-and are over populated! It makes me sick!!!

Most people do NOT get it, but there are those few people who spend free time, helping those willing to learn-These people are the true dog lovers! And we hold the name PROUD- or should at least!
I spend a bunch of free time on here-in the dogs section-answering questions for people who need answers so they can be a True dog lover themselves,But I'm not saying we know everything! I ask Questions too,We live and we learn, its just how we live (and who we love) that determines how much and what we learn!

And now-if you will excuse me,i must go answer another question!
I hope this helps

i'm sure most realize that they have to pay money for the care of the dog but they don't want to pay for the dog...make sense? although there are idiots a plenty that ask really dumb questions. all of my dogs have come to me "free" my fisrt dog was free over 20 years ago... the dogs i have now are from a whole litter i and a friend saved from freezing to death they are 5 years old now. and i have taken in so many strays from ppl that know ppl i know or just the ones i've picked up myself. they came as 'free' although nothing good in life is free...except free samples i love them. ya know what i mean? when i see FREE TO GOOD HOME 6 yr lab can't keep moving.....or something like that i think hope that dog get sa good home....(those are the ones i want to call and take and find better homes for..or keep when we are otta of the apartment....i have a keeping problem if it was up to only me.
i care for my "free" dogs better then i'm sure some care for the purebreds or the one who get put out on a chain cause the ppl can't handle the dog ect...
but i do know what u are getting at animals are not free in the long run most u can bet on careing for..atleast 10 years some longer..
ya know what makes me mad is the vet questions that sound so bad like puppy been puking and pooing all over house for a day or so is that normal? DUH its like why are u wasting time on here?
just my thoughts.....

I agree with you. People don't get it but I think those who are asking for free animals are kids whose parents won't let them have a pet. I hope that is the answer. No adult should be asking for a free pet considering that they should know a pet is a lifetime committment and it requires a lifetime of money spent from the beginning. Most shelters make you pay a fee like $35.00 for a pet to cover vaccinations and spaying or neutering costs it shows you are a responsible person.

Well it's the same like asking why are people willing to pay so much to get a pure breed dog when there are already so many stray animals which very often are nicer, behave better and are more resistant to diseases than a pure breed. It's a choice people make.Just because they don't want to pay to get a dog doesn't mean they won't pay for the needs of their dog.I don't think that people that don't want to pay to get a dog are irresponsible, and I think that if you had them pay a fee for things that were done to the dog(like if he had his first vaccinations and was neutered) they probably would but I surely agree with them,I wouldn't pay so much money to get a pure breed dog,I think that is just stealing, just because the dog is pure breed doesn't mean that he is better than a stray dog so why pay so much for a dog when you can help the ones that are already there?

I totally agree. I think there are a lot of people out there (as evidenced by the number of idiotic questions on this forum!) that just don't understand the responsibility and committment of owning a dog.

It's the same thing that makes me crazy when people come here asking how to fix their dog without taking them to the vet 'because they don't have the money.' I feel sorry for those dogs.

Not everyone out there spends money on their dogs like you and I do. People can and will put a "free" dog on a chain and let it live out it's life in the yard. "Free" means no responsibilities attached. (... just want it to be seen in the yard and and no more.)
