During the last 12-months a number of people have died due to collisions with Police patrol vehicles. It's sad, but accidents do happen.

What a lot of people don't understand is that when a call is placed via 999 an ops centre worker has to decide how important the call is and make a snap judgement.

If they deem the call to be high risk, eg:- Crime in progress, life threatening, or dangerous then they make this call a priority 1 call.
It's then called an "Immediate" which means that no matter what the closest police officer is doing at the time, they HAVE to respond to this call. They will then drive to the location with lights and siren blaring - the driver of the vehicle will be what's called Sector trained and they will drive to this location as fast as they can.

What people must understand is that when they see a Police vehicle with their lights and siren on, they are answering an immediate call. It is the only time that officers can use these facilities.

In an average shift officers can attend upto 20 immediate calls, with an average shift containing only 25 officers.
So next time you see a Police vehcle with lights and sirens blaring, please remember and pull up to let them through.

Thanks.

Very few I would imagine it is very rare .Some may have been guilty of death by reckless driving but again very few.The numbers for car thieves, drunken drivers and fleeing criminals would be very large so I would worry about them first.

And why are they trying to stop criminals so we can sleep in our beds!! No policeman doing his duty trying to prevent crime should even be considered for an accusation even.
