I like to think he'd look a bit like William Burroughs - wearing a busted-up fedora, a black wool overcoat and smoking a cigarette, looking a little thin and tired (after all, it's been a loooooong time since he's had a break), and maybe a bit cynical after all he's seen.

Death is Gods repo man. He's fat and balding and although the job will probably require him to wear black it will worked into some kind of cheap suit or tracksuit even.
He has a penetrating air of smugness about him and a generous streak of corruption(think of every rich evil person youv'e ever known of and wondered howthey survived so long).
Regardless of this, he wears fake gold.
Undoubtedly a smoker(because lets face it, who wouldn't start smoking if they knew they weren't going to die) and frequents a downmarket boozer.
Not such a romantic portrayal as that of Gaiman but nontheless
more realistic.

It doesn't look like anything. It just is. But if you think that idea was original to Neil Gaiman, try reading Peter S. Beagle's "Come, Lady Death". It's a good read- just don't take it as fact.

when I saw this question (before seeing your extra comments), I immediately thought of Gaiman's Death. Why should Death be scary, skeletal or monstrous? Why shouldn't she dance around and quote Mary Poppins? Gaiman's Death rules.

I had an idea for a story where an old man refuesed to die. He was visited by death in the form of a salesman with a suit, shirt, tie and briefcase. In the end, the old man killed death. The story was called "A Salesman Called Death."

Death is an electric blue spider, about the size of a money spider. This spider by the way is one of the most beautiful creatures I have ever seen. I have only ever seen it when someone has died.

Death looks like the brother from Frazier. I know. I almost was murdered several times, and once nearly bled to death.

ALL infants go to heaven...same as all children do.
Once a person is at the age of 'knowing' the truth there are 2 places which your soul can go.
One in up!
One is down.(both are in the Bible).
DEATH.....is when your body dies, and your soul remains
forever in one of the above places.
For heaven=that means you love Jesus with all your heart.
Then you go home to his home!
For hell=that means you do not love Jesus at all, and you go where all others go...who do not love Him.
Reason being=would you let someone who did not love you into your home, all of eternity!....no you wouldn't .
So there you have it!
Death has 2 choices.....which I think is really fair..

It looks much like the death of a loved one. Or the death of the lowliest street person. They are both ugly. The death is sin. That is ugly.
