I have a Boston Terrier that at one time smelled of Fritos or dirty feet. I found out that she had a skin fugus that was causing the smell as well as dry skin. I bought some Tea Tree Oil at one of the health food stores, and put about 20 drops into her shampoo and I have not had the problem since.

No, that's because dogs (and people!) smell like what they eat. Like if you have a diet that is high in spices like Indian or Thai food, you'll have a natural spicy smell. Apparently people from other cultures think Americans smell like dairy products because of all the milk and cheese we eat. Anyways, the reason your dog smells like Fritos is because there is likely a ton of corn and wheat in your dog's food (just what Fritos have in them!). Are you feeding something like Purina, Pedigree, Science Diet, or Iams? If so, it has way too many grains and if you switch to a diet that doesn't have wheat, corn, sorghum, soy, etc, the smell will go away. I rarely bathe my dogs (1-2 times a year) and they have almost no smell. Feeding a good food like Chicken Soup, Canidae, Innova, Merrick, Natural Balance, etc. will make the smell go away.

"Frito" smell is usually a sign of an allergic response or a yeast infection on the skin or feet.
Many times it is because of the quality of food being fed...low quality, supermarket brands such as Science Diet, IAMS/Eukanuba, Purina, Pedigree, etc.

it is probably all in how you wash him. if you shampoo that is scented it could mix with his natural odors.
