For an art project, I am painting a chair, and at the end, the chairs will be placed in a silent auction for bidding. I was wondering, would a "Pirates of a Caribbean" theme work?

I'm looking for popularity here, amongst adults, and well, got any ideas? What would you like to see on a chair?

Pirates of the Caribbean is a terrible idea. Go with something classic. Try vines and leaves wrapping around the chair. It will give it a cool look that has universal appeal. For a focal point, put a tiny flower of piece of fruit somewhere discreet.

you COULD do a "Pirate's..." themed chair without it actually looking like you went hogwild for Disney. Examine the moods and colors of the films. How do they make you feel? What colors come to mind? something rustic with gilding, yet very worn from its many travels across the open sea. would this be Jack's chair? or maybe Davy Jones's chair? his chair would certainly be covered in barnacles and corals. I think you may be onto something.

I know my friend did a similar project where he has 8 different drawings of an object turning into a organ. For example he drew a grenadee into a heart. It was very interesting. That could be an idea though. Taking one thing and showing itsmetamorphosiss into something else.

Paint a mandala on the seat. What's a mandala? Google it, or go to my teacher's website: www.mandalas.com.
Paint the colors you use in the mandala, in colorful stripes and patterns on the legs, back, etc. Finish all but the seat with dimensional paint and swarovski crystals. Maybe throw a little fine glitter in "special" areas. Less is more with glitter, but it does add a kind of fairy dust effect. Fun, fun, fun stuff. Sounds like a great project.

Yeah, movie themes are cool. Personally I would buy a chair that is multicolor. I would get a buch of colos and thrown them at the chair and it will look so cool! Or polka-dots are cool also.

Hope my advice works

You might want to think about a design rather than a theme...if people will be spendind money on this, it should be something they can keep long after the Pirates craze is over :)

Paint it yellow, drill various sized holes all over it and stick a toy mouse in one of the holes and make a swiss cheese chair. I'm too tired to do it, so i give you my idea. haha

What if you did a play on the theme of "chair" itself. Decoupage it with black and white images of great minds and artists and maybe quotes from them...Einstein, Leonardo Da Vinci...etc.

It's a "thinking chair".
