depends how much effort you want to put in and whether or not you want to have black belt capabilities or just a piece of cotton.dont concentrate on the black belt, concentrate on the teaching and the learning.

It depends on your instructor. If it is a quality school, then it will take anywhere from 6-10 years depending on how well you progress. If you go to a 'belt factory' or a McDojo, you can just ask how much it costs and save yourself some time and just buy the belt.
Keep in mind that just practicing for 6 hours a week doesn't mean you have learned what you need to learn. There is much more to being a black belt than just putting in the time or money.
~edit: just about all martial arts now have some kind of ranking system. In the really old days when an instructor took on just one student, there was no need for ranks. But today, an instructor needs some way of knowing where his students stand in terms of their knowledge level.

If it's a decent school I'd say anywhere from 5-10 years. It's a McDojo I'd say 2. If you go the McDojo route however, beware. What they are selling you is not Martial Arts training but a fashion accesory. One that will fill your head with false confidence and get your *** kicked up and down the street if you ever have to really use it. Many of these schools push students especially kids through every 1 to 3 months. They dumb down the training and tests so anyone can pass regardless of actual skill. Take your time and learn it the right way.
Be wary of any school that cranks out 8 year old blackbelts by the truckload.

if you go to a McDojo you will never "be" a black belt, no matter how many pieces of died fabric they give you.
If you go to a serious master of the art and are willing to learn. Then you will learn that the belt is meaningless and is only as someone else put well, a way for the instructor to see more or less where you are in your training. And remember, if you want to be a master, then the black belt it only the beginning of your training.

the average length of time in studying a Martial art from white belt or beginner to Black Belt is often 5 yrs, but it can differ from school to school and person to person.
Also how well you progress depends on how much of the techniques you absorb, and plus your training OUTSIDE of the school also will play a big factor in your overall training, because you also have to train as much as possible away from the school as you do in the school.
you get as much as you put into it. but also, once you've reached your first degree black belt, your training doesn't end there, because the black belt is testament to your dedication to the discipline, and there's So much more to learn even after black belt because that's when your training truly begins.

Kung Fu is a general term for Chinese Internal martial art.
I believe that most of the Chinese Internal martial arts disciplines do not have ranking systems.

Well certainly not as fast as Joe Lewis(9 months), or somebody as strong, determined, agile, fast, powerful, and handsome as myself. But don't give up! You'll achieve something some day!
